Favorite Crate Digging / Music Producer DVD?

theres a lot of these and i only think ive seen "beat digging". Are any of these good and which is your favorite and why? Im thinking about picking one up.

I've only seen scratch, and one on youtube specifically about digging featuring D.I.T.C. etc.

Scratch really isn't about digging more about vinyl culture, it covers, a lot of genres but does have cool interviews with DJ Shadow, Premier etc.

And to answer your question personally I'd rather take the money and go dig then spend $$ on a DVD to sit on my couch and watch people dig. my .02

scratch is the best production imo...

DEEP CRATES 2-this is the closest thing to the real thing as far as i'm concered

ive seen alot of dudes on here sayin deepcrates2 was better than part 1, but IMO part 1 was alot better... i dont know, maybe im a bit partial since DITC has had a major impact on me personally in the realm of hiphop, and they were pretty prominate in the first dvd... but it kinda seemed like the second one had more scenes which needed the music to complement the visual, but they substituted some completely new beat instead of the actual audio of what was going on in the video scene because they were concerned with copyright infringement laws... i dont know, this type of thing wasnt really as noticable to me in the first deepcrates dvd... both videos are cool for those interested in "beatdigging", but i think i prefer the first one if i really had to choose...

damn i didnt know these kind of movies really exsisted what are some other good titles ive been buying records for a couple years but ive only recently kinda gotten into the digging scene

I was also a little disappointed in Beat Kings.. more like a history lesson than in-depth look at production. I think I just thought it was somethin else before I watched lol

oh yeah theres another one called vinyl? i think it was i seen the clips on here but my damn comp crashed. i think is on utube.... and ..."copyright..... copywrite police or something like that....i'm sure someone on here knows what i'm talking about. i actually got to pick these up ,i just have forgotten about them till now.

i need to pick up that beat kings one but from the looks of it i may pass.
these other two seem of more interesting.

i have not really seen a video that sticks more to the production side.most of them just stick to certain things records/beats/producers/what not.

i'm looking for a video with indepth myself,... as to more info on the building of a track /sequencing/songstructure/notes, a instructional video more or less.

any ideas ?

Just pass. Your not gonna even miss it. The whole thing was on YouTube when it first came out and I think the total running time was approx. 36 - 45 minutes. It had a lotta people on it (Rza, Marley, Premo, Easy Mo Be, Pete Rock, Havoc, etc) but there was no "production secrets" exposed. It was mostly vinyl vs. CD, hardware vs software, real hip hop vs. corny new hip hop, & digital vs. analog discussions. They should have gotten EMB to expose the Flava In Ya Ear sample, or got video of Premo beat-making and that would have at least redeemed this 3+ year delayed debacle.

Oh and Kanye appeared in the DVD for about 47 seconds. The only thing I learned that I never knew was Marley sampled a kick and a snare from a record for the first time, and was told by the engineer it wouldn't work in a beat.

I was a DJ well before I was a producer so naturally I’d say that Scratch is probably one of the best documentary’s I’ve seen in ages.

I enjoyed Deep Crates 1 (because madlib’s fascinating to me) more than 2 but think both are essential for any video collection.

Beat Kings was garbage.

I like buying classic jazz artists documentaries just so I can catch a glimpse of what they do in order to create or how they think…I just enjoy it and helps me manipulate their work better. If you’re a jazz cat and wana just check out some great documentaries on great artists here’s a list of a few of the DVDs I would recommend.
