i was thinking again...................

intsead of having faders jumping down or up on the mixer and u having to set the level again if the physical position of the Qlink slider doesnt match the pad or part fader in the mixer pages...............................
in the misc page there should be a option, to make the faders of the pad and part mixer so they arent affected by the qlink sliders physical position until it gets moved to or past the actual level in the mixer. make sense??

i think i get it
So i thought maybe it is possible to loop sequences around their length in song mode

in song mode we currently have: start point, step, sequence, bars and repeat!
I think this is a brilliant idea!!! its even better than iduvidual track feature as you can set the sequence start point freely, and it would be killer to be able to do this: realtime>each time you'd hit the pad the 2nd time the sequence would stop).. akai you better be taking notes, if this is possible it be one hell of a resaon to buy a 4k !!!

also few more:

in sample mode I'd like to see:

sencitifity in slice mode, so slices would adapt to the audio level

and a selectable visual grid with value setting of 64/32/16/8 note ect for visual aid

a visual time line play through the sample in trim mode (I know I'm getting picky but when the hell did this become useless, I think its almost a necsessity when dealing with long samples and this has been on samplers since the birth of lcd's big enugh to display samples

and it be nice to:
jumping from song & sequence mode in realtime

==============
but seriusly: looping sequences around their length in song mode is a revonulsionary on h/w seq!!! nice one alto!

thanx glide! ... man i really miss this feature! you have no idea how often i was bitchin coz i can't move the bloody cursor in this bloody start point field! ... cazzzzoo!!!

but seriously i do like the loop track feature as well! have you read robs proposal for that! i ain't sure which one of the two is better (for us users) and i even less can guess how hard it is to implement it for akai! ... but what i know is that one of those two should be implemented very soon! ... i am for the better one (which i m not completely sure yet)! what do you'll think about it?

and there are lots of other nice teatures/ideas in this thread here! í really think someone here (maybe one of the beta testers could do that!) should send the best ones out of it to the akai guys!

keep the thread rollin and bangin beaz meanwhile!

a grid on the samples according to note value
movement of notes with the enter key and lengthen with the +/- key
Audtion from HD
and track loop

That would be a great 1.60, should be reasonable as well

By Altopiano Wed Apr 21, 2004 8:23 pm
yo ice! ... your os 1.60 is o.k. and realistic! ... but i would add some more such as the time line in sample mode (this would be very useful), possiblity to switch between seq and songs and raveals pad/part/misc feature would also be nice! also very conveniant would be if the machine would be more intelligent! glide pointet that out a few times already: if you jump from main to prog mode the actual prog should be selected!

... well lots of nice features (and not to forget about the q-link extension board!) ... and i got another one ... maybe for 1.70: ... probably not to difficult to implement since its somehow already there!

swing feature: it would be great imo if one could set swing more precisely! for example my synth module allows me to set swing as 50,1%, 55,6%, ... and its definately swingin more then the 4k swings now!

currently we ve got 26 swing settings/steps from 50 - 75! now, adding one comma thing (sorry bro dunno this term in english) would add ten times more swing settings meanin 260 steps of swing!!! ... well if the 4k ain't swingin there .... and the grid resolution would even allow to add 2 commas! ... that would then be 2600 steps of swing!!!!! ... aaahh, gimme more akai!!

perfectly implemented this feature should then somehow look like the move feature in seq edit (meaning to be operated)! first one should be able to make the hard setting, for example to 55% then move the cursor to the additional field where one is able to set it for example to 55,4%! ... or even 55,43!!! ... and in realtime of course!!!

quicksave key,:
to save seq. multi, prog or whatever to the source file without having to navigate back to the save page etc etc.

better FX facilities:
direct dynamics routing. Being insert effects, you should route them directly through the processor rather that send via an auxilliary.
This should also allow more DSP for more effects ie, allow mono in mono out dynamics processing, 4x mono compressors, 2x mono in stereo out reverbs , for example.

All effects sends available from each source, not just one!

Have the newly implemented 16 levels/tuning default to 'last accessed'
option, rather than have to select velocity or tuning each time (am i doing something wrong , because this is ridiculous).

Automatic Folder recognition and loading / saving from CD or PC.
I understand that being able to move files around the hard drive could lead to flakey reliabilty issues, but a little help with file management would be greatly appreciated.

I love the ability to record a live input while playing sequences, but being able to pop it more quickly into the playback program would be very good.
Is it possible? or do we have to wait for a clever new function? A few pre-selection parameters before recording would do the trick, and insert the recording directly into a program for instant playback.

Automatic multiple sample loading/mapping to drum or keygroup progs.
Very handy for quick auditioning/playback .

Also , can an effect be applied to several samples withing a mutli or program? If i audition and effect on a drumloop or key patch and want to appy it to all the samples in the same program , a one/all function would be great or the ability to apply the currently selected send fx.

the ability to merge/copy 2 or more sequences into a single sequence.

multiple track copy within sequences.

scrolling track view in the song page with data block displays showing note information. very handy for mixing.

quick access button for the metronome function. is there a quick way of selecting and turning on / off instead of having to navigate directly to it each time?

more as they pop into my head...................

regards all

JB

a few days ago i rediscovered the new pad/part mixer!!! It's tha ****! amazin! it nearly makes my mixer useless! and it should be further improved! damn, one day i really wanna go straight from the 4k's xlr outs to my active monitors!!!

new feature: raveals propose is actually great! i would ad another similar/additional one in misc page (or wherever) which would be great for live acts imo as well!

with the pad/part mixer one can blend in, fad out, add fx's, pan really quickly! just each time when i press on the pad to adjust somethin the note is triggered aswell! so imo there should be an option that does this: when pressing on the pads the cursor should just jump to the selected pad/part without triggering its note! ... this way one doesn't have to scroll with the cursor to ... pad 16, then pad 1, then pad 47 back ....and can really mix on the fly!

peace and

sorry to barge in as a non user :)

and if this is possible, again, sorry

but RE the manuel update, would anyone mind actually PAYING for an up to date PRINTED version?

as a prospective buyer, i have been considering the wisdom of calling AKAI to buy a manuel, but from what i have read here, with updates to the OS it seems like i would be getting a VERY out of date and confusing book! and as i would be attempting to make sense of it WITHOUT the machine sitting in front of me, i have a feeling it would be even worse :)

anyway, just my 2 euros :)

Rod :)

you would need the reference manual and all the updates, then just day by day go through them all while playing with various shit on the mpc with time you'll get it

As of right now just better FX. I would like to see better FX on the rec. in with a really good EQ.

And don't start buggin' out here! I would like a sequencer and virtual pads in ak.sys that work by clicking your mouse, so it would work like a PC step edit mode, and then you can adjust params like velocity etc on each step with the mouse afterwords. I don't care if it's unrealistic!

in song mode if you could program the start bar in every sequence you could a wholenew side to the 4k.

I want a good autochrome function if it ain't already there somwhere.
