Syncing Cubase SX with MPC 2000XL

Hi all,
I have a question regarding syncing my 2000xl with m Cubase SX.
I have a MidiSport 1X1 interface, and I'm working with the standard soundcard that came with my AMD Athlon motherboard. I believe that my CPU speed is 1.3gHz.

My problem is this:
I want to slave the 2000XL, so I'm using Midi Clock, and I have Cubase set to send Midi Clock information (I hope that I wrote that right)

I can get Cubase to play the 2000XL, but I cannot get it to stop, nor can I get it to record anything that's playing.

I searched several forums, and called Akai's C.S. dept, but to no avail.
What am I doing wrong???????

have you connected any audio out from the mpc into the soundcard?
you cant record audio through a midi cable dude.

The audio is connected.
I would usually record one audio track at a time, and then spend a lot of time adjusting the track to make it sound exactly as it sounds on the 2000XL.
I wanted to sync the two together so that I can eliminate this irritating step.

Would I have to incorporate a MIDI track into the project?

Make sure all your Midi settings are correct under Transport > Sync Setup

and Devices > Device Setup

Midi Input should be reading your MidiSport port your using to send the Midi messages back and forth from Cubase to the MPC

For Example: In C USB MidiSport 4X4

Now if all thats straight, make sure you have at least a blank bar before the sequence song your are trying to sync.

You need to place an empty bar at the beggining of the SONG in order to give Cubase and the MPC a few milliseconds to sync properly.

Hit Record and everything should be straight.

i've had better luck with Midi Time Code syncing to cubase sx. \
Set cubase to send MTC (at 25fps) and MMC (midi machine control). Set the MPC to recieve MTC (25fps) and MMC.

I'll try that.
I tried the previous reply's method, which worked for me a few days ago, but now all of a sudden, doesn't want to work for me.
I have another MIDI related question............ (MIDI is definitely my weak spot) I would like to use my 2000xl to take advantage of Reason 2.5's sound modules..................would the method described above also work with Reason?

Slicc on the real, I would cop dis book called "MIDI Companion" its only $14.95 at Guitar Center

The book will break down the in & outs (the logic/science) of how midi works & what it actually transmits.

You may think this is too technical to know, but beleive me

It make all sorts of things look more logical and you can better get all your equipment working properly.

I have several of products that you working with also. And you just won't get it until you fully understand What N Da Heck Is Midi.

Now as far as Reason you can use it as a Sound Module (grant it you working with killa ASIO drivers)

You have to once again make sure the program is configured properly for your Midi Inputs.

Edit > Preferences > Midi > Advanced Midi

Once that's straight, Use the Channels at the Top of the MIDI IN DEVICE to put the channel on what you want to use with your MPC or Keyboard.

For Example.

Channel 1 = Redrum
Channel 2 = Subtractor (strings)

You will probably have to consult your keyboard documentation to as to how to get only the Reason sounds to play by themselves. Its normally called Control Off / On

Set the Keyboard Control Off when using the channels with Reason and you will only hear Reason playing at that point.

MIDI is actually a very simple thing its just hard to understand. It just send signals on 16 channels. It also send control info. Control info would be say velocity on the pad. Or filters on a pad. The MPC is a MIDI PRODUCTION STATION So the MPC is send midi control messages to the internal sampler. A key board control the MPCs MIDI pads. You can use it to link up devieces and have them all be synced with eachover. MIDI Info
Read that. Midi also only sends a signal one way, there for MIDI in MIDI out. A through sends the MIDI in data through to another devices IN. Just read some MIDI tutorials online and you should be staright.
