different ways to edit programs: Program Mode, Global Program Edit.

i agree with the first set of difference (grid and step edit) one, but i'd say that that is the actual programming side of making the music

BUT is there a clear benefit of OPM over GPE? i say no and i've yet to hear a OPM testimonial that i could understand.

I bought an MPC because I didn't like making or programming tracks on a PC. Taking out Program Mode is like going back to programming on a PC. I just don't care for it.

Nym you understand that you can make whole beats in Step Edit right? Then how come we don't abolish the main screen altogether then and have everything focused on Step Editing your beats?

Oh wait wait wait....cause most of us MPC owners don't like to work like that, and don't like the format...sure we would use it if need be, but who would buy an MPC just to step edit?

You can't understand likes and dislikes and preferences on a purely logical level. Nym, you gotta understand that having everything in GPE is something that you prefer for your reasons, while others like myself prefer to have Program Mode and GPE for our own reasons.

This is why I think JJ should get into making custom OS's in the future...so he can make an OS tailored for each individual, because I don't want the JJ OS to eventually turn my MPC into something I don't like working with because I don't like the format and workflow, and then my only alternative is the weak Akai OS.

Regardless I think removing P. Mode at this point is barking up the wrong tree. In my eyes a whole new interface from top to bottom would have to be planned out if something like P.mode is removed, cause GPE isn't too appealing. It might be fine to people who don't mind or even enjoy looking at nothing but characters and numbers all over a screen all day like it's The Matrix or something, but personally I don't like it.

I want to keep working on my MPC...I don't look forward to working on a NYMPC...get where I'm coming from?

hah of course i don't for the exact same reasons you just described. this is all off topic now and belongs in the other thread - but many of the posts there kind of show that folks dont completely know how to use GPE yet (i just learned another function in it yesterday) so they are very quick to just turn to the familiar.

but anyway, pad mode
