you can hook up midi to your computer via your sound card's joystick port, generally ... if you have one. Check your sound card manufacturer for more info on that.

im in the same boat, i got my midi -> pc gameport cable this morning and i cant configure reason to let the mpc be the controller. ive also got cubase sx and cakewalk.. and cant get it to act as a controller for anything.

my midi/gameport cable has 2 midi connectors, 1 says IN the other says OUT. ive got the OUT plugged into the mpc IN and the cable's IN plugged into the mpc OUT.... is this right?

im a total newbie at using midi controllers as ive done everything on software in the past.

I'd personally recommend anything in the Tascam US series. They will allow u to connect ur mpc via midi cable or 1/4 TRS audio jack. Tight work. Let me know if u have any questions.
