MPC and ASR 10!!!!!!How does it sound???

WHatz up yall i have a 200 classic and the alchemist just amazes me on what he does wit it..i wanna use it mainly for the bass and other sounds but i dont really have a clear idea of midi...but anyway can u guyz tell me whats the advantage of this setup???1

The advantage is the great sequencer of the mpc, with the full features of the asr sampler... (asr has adjustable sample rates, AWESOME effects, and AWESOME filters). You'd want to do all your sampling and editing on the asr10 or sample them elsewhere and save them as wav's and load them on the asr and use the effects and filters to tweak them, trigger them with the keys and use the mpc to sequence the whole thing. Now remember, using the ASR10 because Alchemist uses it won't make you a better producer or sound like him, he's dope because he has the talent and experience and vision, those things are more important than the gear you use. For real.

I feel u on that son i was just saying that cuz the sounds and beats alchemist makes on the asr 10 is crazy and i like to think that we are identical in how we produce u kno...but its final im coppin the asr 10 now...

asr10 doesnt make alchemist ill, 10 years of producing makes him ill. but i have the same setup, asr10 and 2kxl, and i love it and u will probably love it too. good luck. peace

yo butcher what do ou use each piece for...i mean since they both sample and all what do u use for what?

i use the asr10 sampler and effects . so all the editing is done with the asr10 and than i use my mpc as my midi controller for my asr10 and as my sequencer. so when im makin a beat i use the asr10 keys to chop up a sample and create a melody while im recording into the mpc sequencer. then i sample drums into the asr and use the pads on the mpc to create a drum loop.

Alchemist doesn't use the mpc to sequence though, he uses the asr10 sequencer, he doesn't even have a MPC. But like I said, the ASR's filters and effects... make me wish I had one....

Hes comfortable with it this way.

I wouldnt buy an ASR or another sampler extra to the mpc because i dont want to get out of my routine, you know what i mean?Its like im so used to the mpc i use it blindly(and thats what makes this machine so good-the handling, and ease of use), that having to switch from one tool to another the whole time would prolly slow me down.

I believe thats why ALC still uses the ASR 10.Its the first piece he bought and he sticked with it.Hes used to it and has his routine going on there.Why switch if what u have works good for you?

Like butcher said=Its not the ASR 10 makin alc a tight beatmaker.You could make 90% of his beats with an mpc2k too.He would tell you the same.The machine is just the tool, you still are the one using it.

if u go with this setup u will be happy eventually. it might take time to get used to cuz its 2 machines instead of one. but once u learn how to use the 2 together trhu midi, its just like using 1 machine.

Yo butcher after looking about a asr-10, i found this guy selling one on craigs list for 650...im thinking hard about getting it....

ask him if it got scsi and 16meg. make sure u cop one with scsi unless u dont mind using floppies. and the 16megs of memory is a must. but if it has all that than 650 ain that bad. the prices are goin back up on them. always try to talk the person down tho. offer him 600 cash. also ask to see pics.

Im acutally gonna go to his crib to see wassup...he gonna demonstrate it and all so lets ee....but im thinkig about it cause im jsut learning hte mpc...and having two machines is gonna get me off track....or maybe its good to learn both at the same time...what you think?

if u feel that u dont know the machine that u have right now. yes, i think u should master that machine a little more before u cop another one. dont confuse urself with another piece of equipment like i did. but practice the mpc a little bit and if u feel u need something else than get a asr and use them together.
