the 1000 for less than 1000

ok so i am a 60II user never touched another 16 pad machine, but i am about to go on a long trip and will not be back for more than half a year so the 1000 is looking like a big plus since all i will have is that and my pt01, and a crate of wax. now my question is this a mpc 1000 (so i dont get ripped off) that is completely full blown with all the bells and whistles is what? if some of you could break it down for me so that i can be savvy when i purchase one! it would really do a fellow button masher a "good looking"! peace ....ohhh and how much should i look to cop for?

1000.00 brand new from a retailer. Cheaper on ebay, 750.00 or less, but MAKE SURE it's well cared for, i.e. all buttons work and and not pushed in.
If buying used also check out memory. 16MB is standard, but you should buy one with the max 128MB. I wouldn't pay a used MPC 1000 more than 750, including shipping.

I think I got banjo center down to about $900. They don't have a lot of markup on that device. Not all banjos negotiate-- "I'm sorry sir, but we have our Guaranteed Lowest Price every day", so look around!

Then follow in my footsteps and get an OEM memory card for $80 and get jjos for another $30. I also got a 2 gig CF memory card for maybe $30. Not convinced there is a reason to get the onboard disk drive, but you can get an 80 gig for about $100.

Look in this forum for the specs of the memory--no need to pay retail for the akai memory at $108.

And, I have had good luck in general with ebay over the years, so there's that as well. Since I figure the pads only last so long, I just went with a new one so I could wear them out myself.

i put an ad in craigslist looking for an mpc 1000. i put a list of things i had to trade or said i could pay cash. someone came back to me and had an mpc 1000 with maxed ram original box hardly used and 256 flash card. they wanted a mac powerbook i had listed which i paid 400 dollars for about a month earlier. so basically picked mine up for 400. locally though depending on where you are from you can get one used for 6-650. you can always talk them down. just make sure you check out the pads first. plug it in. leave it on for a bit. i personally didnt want to go the ebay route for a used one since i couldnt try it out

yo i picked one up the other day on craigslist for 250. kid thought his buttons were broke. but fixed them for less then 10 bucks. 5 pads were worn. x $8= 40. grand total of $300.

moral of the story. what looks broken to one person, might be gold to the next.

Had that happen to me once with a 50 watt marshall head that needed a new power tube--I could see it was cracked and the vacuum was gone. I asked the kid if the amp wasn't a bit louder when he first got it (it was putting out about 5 watts). He allowed as how maybe it had seen better days, and I got a bargain price and the new tube turned it back to a monster.

Just to say something related, I didn't see much in the way of used MPCs on ebay--or at least not enough of a bargain to cover the risk of buying used gear. But if someone was more diligent and got a good deal--good for them!

well ok thanks for all the info but i need to know also what a 1000 souped up is? i mean all the bells and whistles i hear about 80 gid hard drive? flash and cf card readers i want one that has all? and the newest os! so if some one could explain that would be great

a souped up mpc 1000 would have 128 mb of ram added. possibly an internal hard drive added. not sure what the going rate for a used mpc 1000 with hard drive. the card reader comes in all mpc 1000. so thats stock. the mpcs also came with a 32 mb flash card. any other cf card that comes with an mpc would be something that can be purchased anywhere. i got a 2 gig card for like 25 bucks at best buy. as far as the os is concerned. having the newest akai os is free and will always be free to update. but theres the jj os which the latest version is $30 dollars and allows you to have features like grid editor and bit reduction among others. some features youd find on the mpc 2500

I copped mine with all the bells and whistles for under a thousand. just gotta look around man, just gotta look around.
