Maybe you should make a single thread for all of your questions, instead of making one for each.

Then maybe you should think of a couple of questions, and then post them.
Making a million threads seems like a waste to me, no offense.

RAM stands for Random. access. memory.
It expans your internal memory to 128 mb.
The Factory memory in the mpc500 is 16 mb ( 12mb) samples and (4 mb) sequences.
Its very good to have a bigger memory if you work with big samples
good Luck!

The stickys are there for your information to grab hold of and run with big dog, check them out. They just might answer some of your start up questions.

I just read this post again and I didn't see anyone answering your questions regarding if the RAM is it the same as just a CF card.
no its not the same as a CF card,
The memory expansion RAM is for expanding your MPC's temporary memory. it just hold the amount of mbits wile its on.
If you turn off the machine then the beat that were on the ram chip will be lost. You still need to have a CF card to save your beats whenever turning the off the unit.
If you have 128mbits/16mbts of memory then you can sample up to that amount in one beat.
