separate tracks by midi channel

i remember, a while back we were discussin this feature! yesterday i browsed through the ref. manual and reencountered it! now i ve browsed through the search function of this forum but i couldn't find something providin clearance about it!

i would like to know what it is for! what i found out yesterday is that if you separate tracks by midi channel 1. the track name is changin and 2. one can set for example track 1 to midi channel 2 and vice versa! thats it and doesn't mean a lot to me!

so maybe the question should be: why would one want to change the midi channel? the only answer i found is that - maybe - this feature is just useful once one is doin a song where runnin out of midi channels because of using too many parts or programs! well it never happened to me up til now and i don't think it ever will! am i completely in the wrong direction with this? **** can someone provide some clearance about this feature please?

and please give an answer to this question: why would one want to change midi channels?

COuldnt figure it out either, ive played with the separate function for a while but nothing happened. Its a stupid function, and it shows that the r&d team of the mpc4k are a bunch of dumba55es. The seperate function should be able to work on midinotes as well. SO the track can be seperate down to several tracks by pitch.

Its just a stupid function, i hope they will implement it on a more intelligent way next time

umm, try opening a song thats saved as a midi file 0, where all the files are inside of one track, then use that function it will break every channel apart...

Ice, ... could u please explain what is a song saved as midi file 0? is it a song made out of one track and thus one part and one program?

0= a part of a song saved all midichannels why 1 is just one part of a miditrack at one channel

^ I have no idea what hes talking about but

when you save midi files you have the option of 0 or 1

0 piles the whole sequence into one track
1 has all the midi channels seperated into there own tracks

Not a helpful feature unless you run into alot of 0 midi files
