where do you guys get ur sounds from

Hi mpcfreak. There are several sources for acquiring samples.

A. Free off the net
B. Pay for commercial sample sets
C. Make your own.

Any of these are a good starting point, however, from my perspective if you have an expectation that you are gonna follow any of these and make a somehting you yourself love without any work (tweaking, resampling, mangling, and grooving) then I believe it fair to say, based on my own experience that you are going to be disappointed.

Your question is hard to answer because noone knows what your looking for but you, and this is why music making is so kewl because sounds are sounds, but when you turn a sound to the way you like you get something better.

No matter what you do, your gonna have to put some serious work (which is a love for most people here) into this thing.

Sorry bout the sermon, I saw some of myself in your post and I was sincerely hoping to give you some of the benefit of all of my mistakes.

70% sampled vinyl, 20% sampled computer (VSTi, Reason etc, mostly for bass), 10% sampled other (CD, cassette, mic etc).

I sample vinyl, I record live sounds ie: bags crumbling, pencils taps, home made shakers, live drums and other intruments also some VSTs and Plugins. I use modules, really anything that I think will sound funky!

remember to layer some sounds too so youmake them sound dope together, sometimes a kick will sound bad but if its layered with another it will sound great

use CEP

use the sine wave and construct your own!

Buy the machine...

Dig for records that has 808 or other drums on them!

Get all sort of records so you get all types of drum samples. Everybody uses the 808 now (and the past 20 years) so you might want to get some other stuff too, so you don't sound like everybody else, but yourself.

And, like other said, layer drumsamples to you get the sound you want. You can get very different drums by layering, filtering and pitching samples. Even by layering only one sample with different pitch volume and filter settings.
