Newbie trying to find a turntable-Stanton, Numarks, Geminis?

Whats up y'all, I haven't bought an MPC yet but I'm planning on buying it along with a turntable and a mixer at the same time. I'm probably getting the 2000xl but if anybody can talk me out of it towards the 2500 I would appreciate the advice. Anyways, I want a turntable I can sample off of and I don't know want to get anything too expensive, like I said I am pretty new to this. I went in a guitar center and the guy pushed me towards a 1200 but it was like $500 and I think he just wanted to break me for commission. I can't trust the guys at the local store so my trust is up to you guys to choose one for me. I don't know what to choose from either the stantons, gemini's, or numarks. I just want it for sampling and I also ask for any advice on a mixer too if you have any. I would like any advice on a beginner setup- I appreciate it Thanks.

well to be honest, nothing is better than 12's. but that's my opinion. i got started with vestax, but once i felt my friends 12's i couldn't go back. so i ended up getting a pair. if you go to audiolines.com you can build yourself a package. you can call and even haggle with them about the price. they're normally pretty good about it. i got a 1200mk5 for about 400 new and shipped. work out some deals. browse around too. but honestly, i'd go with 12's. vestax is a nice alternative, but 12's have the history and heritage. =).

ANY turntable is ok for sampling. when no DJing at all is required, i'd suggest the numark pt01, the portable one. no need for a mixer too. you can plug it right into your mpc...

oh crap, i didn't even read your thread closely. for sampling hmm.. i think what matters more is the needle. the better the needle (and record of course) the better the sample you can get. umm, i would recommend the numarkttusb. i think that's the model. it's got a usb port too so that you can record to your computer. if you are using some software too to cut up your samples, this might be a better alternative..

Hey thanks people for the advice, I probably would check out the 12's if they are good for longetivity and my friend swears by the 12's but that will have to make me wait another payday and hat's like 2 weeks maybe 4 if the bills come through. Other than that, maybe I will get the numarks.

well if you havent gotten your MPC yet...dont jump to thinking your gonna be sampling in no time easily it takes a long time to learn and get the hang of. But yeah u still need to get some turntables. Your gonna need to buy extra RAM as well so you can sample more. I dont knw if you alrieady knw this but im just sayin.

Thanks Irock, yeah I realize it might take awhile but hey....I'm patient. I'lll probably get the 2000xl since most people say it is user-friendly but I just wanted to make sure to get a good turntable for sampling, that's all.

think of the big picture.... for example of friend of mine bought a cheap numark just for sampling, but after practicing on the my 1200's he can scratch with skills now and wants to incorporate his new scratching skills in his beats... problem is he bought a cheap numark and has to get Technics 1200's to achieve his goal. Just a couple more hundred dollars at the time and he wouldn't have this problem... just something to think about.

thanks cazillac, yeah the sp-1200's seem ill as hell and I might be doing some decent scratching on some beats, I might check them out. By the way, whats the difference between all of the 1200's, there is like three different kinds and they are in the $400-500 range.
