Proposal for Separate Track Length feature

Hi all,

I wrote a piece this morning that explains how I think the
separate track length feature can be implemented on the mpc4000 at
relatively low costs for the software engineers.

It's not technical at all, and written with the user in
mind.

Yes I am indeed doing this for a living. Wouldn't mind working on the 4K OS at all.

i don't want to be a moanig granny, but I had a qy700 and couldnt find a sensible way or working with it.
it seemed to make me work the way it wanted to, which i couldnt understand.
it had pattern (loop) mode and track (linear) mode which would have been perfect but they worked in different ways.
there was no manual drop in record available.
the way it kept playing a pattern regardless of the fact it was only 4 bars in an 8 bar loop, requiring me to insert a silence command.
the small amount of user areas to record into, etc etc.
all in all, it looked good on paper and was a pig in practice.
I bought the MPC to get around these shortcomings and it works very much the way i want it to.
There are a few functions id like to see implemented, like the track length
feature , but having tracks to record on in the song page seems like a more straightforward solution, or being able to merge sequences to create
longer track lengths or just being able to specify several consecutive sequences which can have one continuous track recorded alongside.
I would certainly like to see some of the qy's features considered as i thought the interface was pretty weel laid out and clear , but i thought it didnt deliver in operation.

I hope you understood from my piece that I absolutely don't want to turn the 4K into a Yamaha sequencer. I love the open and straightforward structure of the MPC line, and didn't touch that in my proposal. The only change I propose is to play only part of a track and then loop back to the beginning. No complex structures, nothing else.

I liked the QY700 very much. It was a very complex machine (typical Yamaha style), but once you understand it, you get a very powerfull sequencer. And you know why that 4 bar phrase kept playing in an 8 bar pattern (sequence)? It's supposed to! That's their way of implementing separate track lengths. If you want a silence after that 4 bar phrase, just insert a rest event on that track. I agree with the pitty small amount of user phrases though. Simply not enough. I also missed a way to directly select a track.

ROB YOU ARE ONTO IT!!!! this feature is on my Triton but I dont use the sequencer so I cant comment on how it works in practise, but its soundsssss fkking cool. especially for things you dont want to come up every 8 bars you can have it play every 16 or 32....now thats gold for fills and so on.....anyway keep up the good work....Do we need a petition????
