Replacing the MPC4000's case fan with a "silent" one...?

If you manage to get that model number for the fan that would make a great sticky as the fans themselves are so cheap it has to be worth doing.
I would do it.
The mpc is by far the noisest piece of equipment in my studio!
So if you do find out the exact model number please let the forum know as that would be veruy useful information.

yeah - or failing that - if I have to open my MPC4000 up again and measure the fan size:
how do they quote the sizes? i.e. do you measure the diameter across the fan? Or the length of the edge?

It looks like i was mistaken; this seems not to be a variable-flow-rate fan. (I ordered several fans as part of this order, and the other fans I ordered, 80mm ones, have thermistors and throttle their own speeds.) This is however a very quiet fan: 8dBA. It is essentially inaudible. I have to moisten my hand and put it over the vent to be sure that the fan is working.

I am not sure how these are measured. It must be something like the diagonal length of the fan however (corner to corner), because the fan is certainly not 6cm on a side.

You may ask, how did I know to order a 60 mm fan if I don't know how they are measured. I don't remember, haha. Probably I looked up the part number of the original MPC fan. Maybe I was drunk and just got lucky. Dunno.

I don't have proper tools to open up my MPC at the moment (I'm travelling), so sorry that I can't provide more details about installation, verify the part number by reading it off the fan itself, etc. If / when I have my MPC opened up again, I will respond to this and update.

In any case, I remember that the installation took me all of two or three minutes, not including the time to open up and close up the MPC, which is the bulk of the work.

Be careful to make very good electrical connections to the wires on the fan, because if it becomes disconnected you will probably not notice it until your unit heats up. That is, you will not be able to hear this fan failing, so take care when installing it to connect it properly and verify that it's working before you button up the unit again.

I'm not sure why but the fan in the Blue Plus I just got is quieter than the fan in the White unit I had been using.
I wonder if they changed the fan when Numark started resourcing parts?
Maybe VST would know.

Probably yes. Mine is too a new blue one and the fan is so quiet all I hear is HD.

In the MPC4000 Service Manual,
the fan is listed as:

yeah feline forat fixed my fan, i assume thats what was making all that internal noise. i got a new hd and got that fixed and this thing is silent now, its awesome.

Googling around for the part number, I found this:

According to this document, the original MPC fan is 60mm x 25mm, 12V, 24dBA (!!), 3200 RPM, and airflow of 0.44 cubic meters per minute.

The replacement i used -- IX-0625-08 -- has an airflow rate of 9 cubic feet per minute, which is a bit lower than 0.44 cubic meters per minute. Silenx (and other manufacturers) make higher flow-rate fans, e.g., the IX-0625-12.

So - the original MPC4000 service manual specifies a fan with 0.44 cubic metres per minute of air moving...
that's about 15.5 cubic feet per minute.

the SilenX Fan Ixtrema Pro 60x60x25 12dBA 14CFM - ixp-34-12
does 14 ft^3/min, which strikes me as close enough to be within safety design tolerance,
and it offers 12dBA noise compared to the 24dBA of the original.

So I'm going for that.

£15 seems trivial to reduce the fan noise on the MPC4000. (mine is an original white-face one from 2002 - the noise is loud enough to be a little irritating)

thanks for the tips, mine too is noisy(original white 4k) and lately i fear some screws are a bit unscrewed coz it is makin some additional noise...gotta open the beast again, damn...

If by some chance I go inside of the Blue anytime soon I'll look to see if any info is on it.
That would at least let us know if they did in fact change it on the blue models and if so to what.

OK I was in the Bule MPC and the fan had no markings or specs on it at all.
Unless they are listed on the side that's bolted to the frame.
So still don't know if the fan in the Blue is different.
