Modulator Oscillator

Is there any plans in the future for the ring modulator going down to 60Hz. It would be nice to have a low frequency oscillator to "808" my kicks. Just something I do in Pro Tools that I wouldn't mind having available in wonderful Music Production Center 1000! Haha

well you could solve this by: high pitching--ringmod--down pitching

To be sure im clear you are saying turn the pitch up on the drum sample, resample with the ring mod and then turn the pitch down on the resampled drum sound? If so, thats a wonderful idea that is a surefire workaround. Thanks, I owe you Pony!

Now he's built an oscillator, why not turn the thing into a synth?

If it could do square wave, and allow you to create a certain length of tone, then build a autochrom-type program with the pads playing different tones, then we could use the existing envelopes and filters to synthesize sounds from scratch.

That would be cool, particularly if it came with some kind of preset storage system!

tom, i have a folder called "reftones" that i use expressly for that purpose with autochromatic.

using simult, i can even create "2 pad bank simulted synths" in which i can use different filters for the 2 waves. it's like a "maelstrom lite"

i do this allllll the time. you can make a very expressive and nice bassline (what i synthesize mostly) or some more textured stuff. throw in another layer of timbre or even a multisample if you really want to get funky and you have something extraordinary, even if it does take up 3-4 voices.

sorry...what is this 'simult' of which you speak ?

jj put a feature in his os, that allows you to play 2 pads at the same time. it's called simult pad. if you go to global parameter edit or old program mode and select the 'mute pad' option, you can switch it to simult pad. now you can choose which pad should be played simultaneously (spelling?).
this is realy helpful if you want 2 filters, envelopes or fx on the same sample.

i am no expert in ring modulation, but are you sure it would "808" your kicks ? this is not a sub-oscillator.

anyway, if 60hz for ring mod could be useful musically, maybe it could be requested.

If I recall correctly, 60Hz was the modulation rate used to produce the Dalek voices in Doctor Who.

Truvc have you ever gated a 40-60Hz oscillator using a kick drum? It gives the kick a boom resembling that of the Roland 808. An oscillator is only considered "subsonic" when the frequencies are 70Hz+/- or below. If you take the resampled kick and filter out the higher frequencies the "ring" will not be there. Does not matter if its incorporated or not I use it anyway in Pro Tools by gating the tone generator. It would be useful to myself musically, but who am I

Nym, can you explain that synthesizing procedure in some more detail? I like the idea of synthesizing on my MPC, but I don't quite understand the way you do it.
