MPC2000XL...Memory?

Okay I am an MPC1000 user, but im thinkin about switchin to the MPC2000XL. I was reading about the XL and it said the memory only upgrades to 32mb. For anyone that uses the mpc 2000XL is that a set back at all. Or is it just enough and then some. Cus many producers are using the MPC2000XL and for some reason 32MB doesnt seem like it would be enough, or is it. I just wanna get kind of an idea if I was to switch from the MPC1000 to MPC2000XL.

Premo is still using his MPC60 and the Akai S950 for a total of approx. 5MB ram :lol:

I mean it really depends on how you pick your samples.

o i c...haha knowin preemo he's probably got tricks up his sleeve where he can do anything wit that mpc...but on the real tho...do you think a switch 2 the mpc2000XL be a good decision

Many younger cats are not understanding the use of ram in a sampler, and organization of those samples in ram/memory. 32mb is enough. Younger cats are into computers so they think bigger hard drives or ram is the ticket, not necessarily. Depending on who the producer is and his understanding of ram/memory.

Alright I got you man....Here's the deal.


32MB is more memory than you will EVER need! When sampling, it makes more sense to sample in MONO. It will still playback in stereo, but you get more sample time.

What I'm trying to say is that with 32MB, you will have around 180 or more seconds of sampling time. BUT, if you sample in MONO, you will have a total of around 380 seconds of sampling time!!!

If you need more than 380 seconds of sample time, I'd advise you quit making beats now....lol Unless you're sampling whole songs like Ghostface. In that case, you should quit too....

Trust me, it won't set you back at all. And personally, you'll love the 2000XL. It's an incredible machine.

If you have any other questions about the XL, get at me....I know the machine inside and out....

a useful trick when having limited memory is to pitch your samples while sampling them, then pitch em' down in your sampler.

Co-sign all day long! I use to own the MV with 512mb of ram and I really thought I had something special. Not at all...! 32mb of Ram is all you will every need and some. Trust me.

me i boughht the 2kxl like 2-3 weeks ago and upgraded my ram to 32 mb and honnestly thats enough for me aslong as i can sample 20secs its all good.
