I THINK THE BEST WAY TO GO ABOUT IT IS TO MAKE SHURE ALL YOUR XL FILES ARE SAVED IN FOLDERS FIRST, AND IF YOU ARE USING ZIPS GET A USB ZIP DRIVE, CONNECT TO A PC COMPUTER ALONG WITH YOUR 2500 CONNECTED AS WELL AND TRANSFER FROM ONE TO ANOTHER, IF YOU USE A MAC FOR SOME REASON THE MAC CHANGES THE NAMES OF THE FILES ON YOUR ZIP, SO WHEN YOU PUT THE ZIP BACK INTO THE XL, IT WILL SAY CANT FIND, BECAUSE IT CHANGED THE NAME, IT SUCKS BUT I HOPE THAT HELPS U

If it was me I would somehow make a copy of the xl files in a seperate folder or something and then try the loading with the copy of the files, so if they are damaged/renamed or whatever, you still have a good copy of them all. Why not just try it if you have the gear with you, do you?

The JJ os loaded us zips that you saved on the XL? I bought a USB zip drive for my computer and it didn't work at all.. this is when I had the akai os, so your saying the jj os can read XL formatted zip disks? :)

i copied the contents of the zip to my computer, and then transfered to the 2500

when i upgraded the zip to the card reader on my xl, i was able to open up my xl projects in the cf cards on my 2500 directly from the cards with no problems

the 2500 with the akai OS should load up 2000xl files (i've done it), but there are certain things which don't work. sometimes it causes some problems, so it's probably best to just load the sounds one by one and re-program and re-sequence everything. obviously if this isn't originally your program, you can't do that.

but i had issues where i loaded a 2000xl program in the 2500, made some adjustments to it and saved it. when i loaded it back up, there were things which were not the way i had them when i saved it, so i made the changes again, saved it, and the next time i loaded them it again wasn't the way i had it when i saved it.

another pain for me was that the levels in the mixer just don't match between the two machines. the 2000xl would adjust volume in a more linear fashion, whereas the 2500 is more logarithmic (which i hate). so when you load a 2000xl program, the pads which had low volume are way too low, and the pads which had a higher volume are way too high.

the reason i hate the logarithmic mixer volumes is because it's harder to get levels the way you want them. moving the mixer volume up one tick makes way too much of a difference which makes it hard to level out your volumes. sure, i'll multi-track a beat into protools and adjust the levels there too, but i like to get it where i want it in the mpc.
