Help !!! Installing Digital in/out

I wanna sample... from an audio cd, a sample cd i bought, but when i hook up the cd player to the record in jack on the back of the mpc it sounds ugly, nasty, i dunno what it is, especially when i try to sample drums. (It sounds like im there recording the drum through a crappy mic) Im thinking its because i need to sample through the digital in/out . Am i right (i dunno why they close it up) ? Will recording though the digital in/out give it that direct recorded sound. Also do i need to buy somthing else to use the digital in/out or is it just opening the mpc and removing the metal bar thats in the way. Thanx alot if anyone could help me .....

P.S. or is there another way to sample with the mpc that i dont know of ?

If you want to sample digitally, you need to buy the 8-output expansion board(it also has digital in/out). Those "metal bars" are there to fill the empty hole where it goes. And yes, sampling digitally will result in much better sound quality.

As far as your samples sounding nasty - what kind of Cd player are you sampling from is it a portable(discman)? If you are, then the only thing I can think of is that you are sampling from the headphone output with the volume up too high, making the signal clip/distort.

Dam so you gotta pay another 200 dollars. What do you do? do you sample through the record in jacks. or do you use digital? Does it happen to you also when u try to sample drums... Thanx

You can probably cop that board cheaper on e-bay, but they're not always on there. You just gotta keep lookin.

I dont think i'm the right person to ask about sampling through the analog ins, because coincidentally, my MPCs inputs are messed up and its in the shop. Before I brought it in for repairs i was sampling on my PC and importing the /wav files to my MPC. I hope for your sake that nothing is wrong with yours cause mine has been there for goin on three weeks now. Its gettin ridiculous...

But anyway, if you have the capabilities to sample digitally, you should by all means do it.
