you keep switching gear every 2 months. watch, you'll be getting rid of the 3K sooner than you would expect.

:D Are you so totally satisfied with your gear that you don't want different things old or new? Does it bother you that some folks can switch at will? I drive a 78 bonneville. Alittle old, very clean, very reliable, easily maintained. Could make it cross country and back. Made when quality was more important than bells and whistles. Can the 3000 fit in that class? And if I don't like it, will that desroy "your" dreams? Sorry

I started won a 2kx and evetually got the 3000.

To me, all these people grabbing and tossing out MPs is rediculous. It would drive me nuts, not to be sure my setup is done and ready for anything.

The key to happy ownership is research my friend. Long before I had a 3k I knew I wanted one...turned onto the looks, sound, reputation.... the usual things.

However, I did my research. Plus I tried as many MPs at other places as I coould find.
So before going 3000 I tried the 1000, 4000 (there were no 500 and 2500 then). No need to cop everything right away.

Knowing the 2000xl inside-out, backwards in the dark with a blindfold on, just a few things suprised me at first when I made the switch to 3k. Let me remind you I had read the manual before I got the machine to get an idea, followed by research etc.

First thing that I knew before I got it but still is kind of a bummer, is the the fact that you can have only 1 PGM at a time, and the only half way helpfull solution is adding a 2nd program and record a pgm change into your beat. Not really the same thing.

A thing that any 2kxl user will ask is: WHERE IS MY UNDO BUTTON?!?
Well there is sequence edit. But to be honest with you. I never use it eventhough it provided pretty much the same thing as the 2k undo, just that you have to set it up manually.... I just realtime erase notes or go into step edit.
Use your brain and you need no undo ;)

Also the copy to zone function is pretty ancient if youre not working with rohans OS.
Makes chopping up a break pretty annoying, for a 2k head.

As others already said I adapted my workflow to this machine as well, and I feel its alot more musical and less mechanic as on the 2k xl. Still I kinda miss the thing I had with the 2kxl. Its kinda like a first love :D If only I could fly over the buttons in the same tempo using the 3k. Its all about practice ... So keep in mind what dude posted above. Take your time with a machine. Sometimes it takes one or two years to fully get into it.

Now befo I get out of here let me just give you one hint: The 3000 means : work, patience and concentration. Even more than on other machines imo. Become the Teacup, and everything will follow grasshopper

I used it for half a year or something, but the old school computer screen just took up to much space (i have a small room with a small desk and too little space), so I removed it again. But the display on the 3000 is good enough by itself, but you may want to get a new backlight for it.

Ok. Skip the vga. How does the sound compare to the 4k? Save and load time?

Good luck with your 3k quest.

Better understanding of a purchase is the key.
While I have owned many MPC's it has been over a pretty large amount of time and revolved more around other gear purchases or growth.
I have a small son so old vehicles don't exist to me.
Bells and whistles may not mean anything to you but my wife and son walked away from a head on collision last year.
I have always beleived that a person can only as a few questions about a purchase.
After that they are asking you to make the choice for them or they are an uninformed shopper.
They always seem to start mandating the purchase or defending it instead of hearing info.
You say you gotta have a 3k, if that's the case then that's the case end of discussion.
What exactly would you be asking if that was your perspective when you originally post?
Lamp always tells people download the manuals and check them out and that's golden advice because all the MPC have different advantages that reading the manuals will allow you to check against your needs.
Short term gear swapping will always be counter productive but with used gear sometimes it's the only way to try it out.
So just get a 3k run it through it's paces and resell it if needed.

Thanks . I'm not here to argue or offend, just learn and grow. I originally asked for pros and cons from experianced users who had a comment. No ones forced to reply. Im going to get it and see for myself soon. Until then research continues......ntalec, happy to hear they survived, thank God (not bells and whistles). Peace

YES.

Id give it a minute though, get used to the 3k and if you still digg in a few months cop that update, otherwise you will never be able to appreciate the new functions all oldschool 3k users wanted for so long.
