Taken from the Akai MPC500 Support Page:

>>>How to copy OS bin file to CF with MPC500 and Computer

*Required Equipment: Compact Flash (CF), USB mass storage class supported computer (Windows XP/ME/2000 or Mac OSX, OS9.x)

1. Download the file MPC500_v113.zip from our website to your computer

2. Your browser should automatically unzip the file and you should have a file called "mpc500.bin" on your computer (if it does not, you will need to unzip the downloaded file using Winzip [PC] (http://www.winzip.com), or Stuffit Expander [Mac] (http://www.stuffit.com)

3. Insert Compact Flash into the MPC500

4. Switch the MPC500 ON

5. Go to LOAD mode [MODE + PAD2], then scroll with the [DATA] wheel to select USB.
6. Connect a USB cable between PC and the MPC500 (display will change from "Not Connected" to "Connected")

7. Your PC/Mac will mount the CF card of the MPC500 as a drive on your computer

8. Copy (drag) OS .bin file onto the CF card's ROOT DIRECTORY (ie: DO NOT PLACE IN ANY FOLDER)

9. Once the file has been copied, safely dismount the MPC from your computer, and disconnect the USB cable

>>>How to update MPC500

!!! NOTE: DO NOT SWITCH OFF THE MPC500 WHILE IT IS UPDATING THE OS !!!

1. Power the MPC OFF (leave the CF card in the MPC)
2. Press and hold down the [SHIFT] button on the MPC while, you power the MPC back ON (this will launch the OS Bootloader)
3. The MPC should show you a screen which reads:

New OS 1.13
OK(REC) or STOP

4. Press [REC]
5. The MPC should now start the OS update (it will first erase the Flash ROM and then write the new OS to Flash ROM)
6. Once the OS Update is complete, the MPC will automatically restart itself
7. Power OFF the MPC and wait 30 seconds
8. Power ON the MPC while holding down the [ERASE] button (this will reinitialize the MPC)
