I just switched to an 2000XL and that´s the perfect compromise between durability and features for me.
I owned a 3000, 60, 60II and 2500 before. And the 2000XL is the best cut of all those.
The features/built-quality/price Ratio is the best of all mentioned above.

yea the XL is looking very attractive

I need 8 outs, USB and CD, so I have to have the 2500. I love mine right now. DOn't care what others say. Its the hands not the machine. Article in Sound on Sound this month features Primier and he still uses his MPC60 and S950 sampler to this day. Never upgraded. If your idea is hot it can be brought out on just about anything considered pro audio. We all should spend less time defending our gear choices and more time in the lab creating!

I haven't heard anybody mention the mpc1000 WITH jj os. Are those out of the question?

4000 has bugs and no more OS up-grade.

2500 data wheel sucks and brakes after heavy usage.

2000xl and 2000 the box is made real cheap and makes noises and rattles (i had a 2000 and gotten that. so dont tell its not true).

not trying to be a dick or nothing but the machines you just listed are used on hit records every single day, and have been for more than the last decade if they've been out that long. no audio gear or daw is perfect, not by a long shot. when you really love the music you just find ways to work around the bugs and make the hits.

i have the 4000 and it is an extremely solid machine. never crashed once even in heavy sessions, never froze, never wouldn't start up, and i have few bug issues. seriously, though...there are people who spend an hour a day on forums bitching about how hard disk recording on the 4k was promised and never delivered, and there's those who churn out great music on their 4k everyday. don't be part of that first group.

I got a 2500 over a year ago and have never looked back..if they all have those "bad features" as you said, you will learn to work with them

If these minisule things about the MPC really get on your nerves, then your clearly not in it for the music... Just get one and pound out the bangers...You can do it with any piece of equipment.

the 4000's bugs are so minor that I don't even notice them
just check the 4000, I've been flying all over the world with mine, and havent had a problem since I bought it

There's no bugs in the MPC4000 I know of. At least I never encountered any. Only think I can think of is the USB connection to AkSys which disconnects itself every so often.

I used to have that usb disconection problem on my old computer
now no problems with that at all
