Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

Came across this last night, and in fact not having it was one of the things that was bugging me a little about the 500.

If you are playing a looped sample by holding down a pad, hold the [SHIFT] button down, let go of the pad while still holding shift, the loop continues to play. Personally, I'm happy about this, since I make use of a lot of long looped sounds and it'll free up my hands to play other pads or use other gear.

I think this might be an undocumented feature, since I can't find mention of it anywhere in the manual. May not even be a planned featured, but I'll take it any way I can get it.

Hope some of you find it useful.

I haven't tried it, I am using 1.13.
I just wanted to know if it doesn't work on mine, it might be a 1.12 thing.
I was just curious.

That's great, thanks for the info. Yeah, I can see how it would come in handy. So you can basically play your looped samples like one shots.. I'll give it a try later.

Doensn't work here!

I tried playing a pad with a looping sample in both 'one shot' and 'note on' modes. If I press shift together with a pad, nothing happens (the pad won't play at all!)

I'm using the latest O.S. 1.13

It does work with 1.13.
You just have to hold the PAD then the Shift button until it continues the loop, then let go of the pad (it took alittle bit but then I got it to do it).
But of course if you have Mute groups enabled, it will kill the loop.
That would be cool for a live setup for grooving on Loops.

Yeah, sorry about that, I might have been vague. It goes like this:

1. hold pad first
2. hold down shift but don't let go of pad
3. keep holding down shift, now let go of pad
4. now let go of shift

Only will work in 'Note on' mode, since loops won't work in one-shot.

Thanks for info on 1.13 enotide, I'll probably do the upgrade this weekend.
