Two outs?

I have a feeling that either everyone already knows this/it sounds ridiculous, but I was thinking can't you get two outputs from the stereo out by panning for example some melodic samples to far left and drums to far right? Two outs result, no? Lemme know if I'm mental or this is common knowledge.

That typically works with any drum machine or synth.
