hey guys, i'm working on some live drumming stuff, and i was wondering if you guys could help me out.

I've got an atmospheric pad type noise on one pad, and i'm drumming and playing basslines with the other pads.

What i would like to be able to do is....

1. Hit atmosphere pad...atmos sound plays
2. Hit Bass note...Bassnote plays...bassnote mutes atmos....when bassnote finishes playing...atmos unmutes, and continues playing.

Is there some kind of wierd way to make this work? Thanks for considering it guys. Peace out.

i dont think thats possible. chop the atmospheric sound like halfway through the sample and load it onto another pad.. then play it when the bassnote is done

try side chain compression when tracking out.

yep, i am a bit worried that that is the only way around it, but i really want to avoid it. The track i'm working on is about 140 BPM, and i'm drumming it live doing, drums, bass and that atmospheric noise all at the same time. I really don't have the luxury of playing that atmos, i need it to be chopped by the bassnotes playing if it's at all possible.

yep, excellent thinking, unfortunately this track will never be tracked out, it lives in the box and only gets played live. i haven't even made a sequence of it, it's just me bashing pads.

anyone else got any ideas? I'm looking in your direction Nym, you always seem to have some far out solution to these ideas.

if the timing of these pads getting hit it always the same, you could try this:

set up the atmos sample on one pad, the bass note on another, and on a third have a copy of the atmos sample with some of the sample silenced at the beginning. the length of the silenced portion is how long the bass sample will last for. you may also need to chop some off the beginning before you do this so the second atmos sample lines up with the original had it continused playing. now simult the partially silenced atmos pad to the bass note pad, so the partially silenced atmos sample plays when you hit the bass pad, and then set up the bass pad to mute the first atmos pad. this will only work accurately if you have the note positions set in time, ie have them sequenced. if you play it live it may not sound right, but that's up to you.

hope this helps.
