On a trip to York (not digging related) i found out that today yet another indie store was closing. Sad shit was n pretty decent too.
I have an idea of that i'll make my own Yellow pages type thread shit n list all the decent record stores (i've visited) in the UK cos all the good indie stores are dying. Plus it'll save you bus fare so you ain't looking for stores! Feel free to rep your area and add decent ones round yours!
King bee Records
519, Wilbraham Rd, Chorlton, Manchester
**dope store! Cheapest in Manchester. Records usually at the £4-£5 mark and 'collector records @ £8-£10 (on very, very rare occasions higher!) Avoid weekends! Testing deck gets busy!
Fat City
Oldam St, Manchester
**Sells a bit of everything. Prices can be ok. Good for re-issues of stuff you'll never find! Sell Stones Throw t-shirts so you too can look like a backpacker!
Piccadilly Records
Oldham St, Manchester
**same as Fat City but sell more rock styles too. Have loads of Roy Ayers, Sun Ra, Axelrod, etc, etc
Vinyl Exchange
Oldham St
**is ok rarely, but the service is craaaaaaap at times. Always sum random chatting to the guy at the counter
Vox Pop
Thomas St, Manchester
**For stuff your very desperate 4 yes. Reccomended on Mr Scruffs Myspace but i think the shop is overpriced and shit.
YORKSHIRE
Wall Of Sound
John William st, Huddersfield
** ok, but is really a collector shop i think. Since the move from Halifax to Huddersfield prices have gone up a bit, but worth a visit.
Relics Records
New Briggate, Leeds
**again ok, but a bit pricey at times. Again worth checking to see if anything floats your boat.
Crash Records
Headrow, Leeds
** Good for reissues and the new releases. Staff are friendly so thats a plus.
Jumbo Records
St Johns Centre, Leeds
**loads of Style twats getting gig tickets, but it's ok @ times
Avoid Oxfams at all costs!
Anyways i wrote all this cos i was bored lol. I just think a record store listing is a good idea. anyways i'm off for sum kip. morewhen i can be assed.
Please add some more if u like! (any country really)
(is this a silly idea ?lol)
