Don't like your mpc 500's pads?

that's how i'd do it (didn't have time to map last night...just tried the random scenes that came up to see how the response was, before bed)
& you can use the "leftover" four pads per bank to double hihats (for example) to play quick figures...if you have like three extra you can do finger rolls like a frame drum player. just one possibility to play with! (interesting for me cause i wanna use the tandem thing live...mpc is too stiff & unreliable for me for that purpose)
wonder if you can map other things from the kp in an interesting way. full level worked automatically btw

Yeah .. I can play my KP with one hand for hours if I need to. the 500's pads are just too stiff for that.

Working both at once would be a lot of fun. Trigger samples with the left hand and bang away with the right.

I cant wait to play around with this tonight after work.

The only thing I am upset about is the inability to play keys with the PK on the 500 like I can with my synth or even my MC303.

Maybe one day....

Haven't actually tried it yet. Hopefully, I'll work on it this weekend and report back how the PK and 500 work together.

Should have bought a PK instead of the Trigger Finger I have collecting dust in its box, not being used.

why would it matter if thiers better response, if these pads are as durable as the older mpc's it dudnt matter if they need to hit thier pads harder...

most people who use the mpc, with the exception of people who've seen black milks video, use full level

I think for a lot of people it doesn't and shouldn't matter. I am a pianist, however, and am used to a wider range of touch response. I'm using the 500 more a lot more than beats (melodies, etc.), so I think the PK is almost essential for me.

I just happen to be really picky about touch response, though. Potential MPC500 buyers should definitely try one out and see for themselves. A LOT of people like the pads and like to bang on them really hard, and you're right djobserv- many people use full level! This is a legitimate stance on the subject as well. I don't think that Akai messed up on the pads. They are just not my preference in the same way that certain keyboards don't have a touch response that I like...blah, blah, blah.

I use the velocity for other things then volume on the MPC500, which makes it more dynamic. You can program volume changes with the slider, while using velocity to modify, filter cutoff or sample start position for example (or both ).
