Thanks for the shout-out and promotion suggestion Aww_Naww

But I gotta hold my man down! He's not lying, there is much spam, sex webcam links, and adware trying to invade the site. I can't say why that is compared to this site??? Maybe there's a difference in php software being used. I can't call it!

I suggested "captcha" software to the admin, but it's on them how they want to manage the site. Also he wasn't lying, DaMadMan just had a newborn, which took him out of the game for a minute, another is on vacation! Not making excuses, cause I'm not in charge....just dropping knowledge on what I know!

If you've noticed there's many ads on this site, which is cool because they all deal with MPC's, they don't have ads on the nation forum, again that's their call! What I can't understand is the fact that... whether you're a member or not....you can still search the site for information. So you can't use that for an excuse! The only thing membership does is allow you to post messages and receive IM's

Let's calm down the madness. I'm a member of about 25 music forums. I try to help those that I can, but I can't front....many help me too! It's all good...we're all here to gain knowledge. So no matter who started the drama.....let's squash it and get people's questions answered!

It's all squashed now!! If you have any questions about the MV or whatever...just ask me until the membership issue is resolved. If I don't know the answer...I'll find out from someone who knows!

Take it easy fellas. There's no need for this. Let's stay on topic.

I just got an MV-8800 a day ago. I haven't had a chance to really put in a full session on it. So I couldn't tell you if its buggy or not. Prior to getting this tho I spent a couple hours at GC messin around with it. I really dig it and think its a great machine. My only gripe with it so far is the slow loading time. That might be conducive to you if you wish to use it for live shows. But the V-Link can probably give you some interesting functionality if you want to use video and visuals in your shows.

For the most part tho I kinda feel like its meant to be more of a studio piece. The 500's portability might be a strong point for you, because the MV is a big balooga. I'm almost entirely sure it has a track mute function and then some.

The MV is a deeper investment than the 500 which is pretty much a completely different market (portable battery powered units).

If you're worried about bugs then I would be even more discouraged to go with Nukai these days. Roland has a heavy steady rep for reliability.

In the big picture I would go for the MV since you're right the 8K goes for a very decent price used these days. You just get more bang for your buck in the end.

I had a MV8000. I never had problems when I used to go to MV Nation. And to be honest, there was usually tons of information and people generally kept things professional. I did feel sometimes like it was a support group to make people feel as though they made the right decision in getting it and not an Akai. Mike Acosta was usually always around to help, sometimes in not so patient responses. But far more than anything Akai has ever done to help customers. I loved my MV, but I traded it for an MPC2500. Although I read, and sometimes experience little bugs and stuff, I'd probably never give up my Akai for the MV, but would gladly keep both in the studio if I wanted to invest like that. I couldn't see a MPC500 replacing an MV in my studio though. Like dude said though, MV is for the studio although it can be lugged around if you need to. Although I'm an Akai fan (of their bigger units), I would opt for the MV in your case because it has some good synth sounds on board with the ability to do some pretty good sampling. Not that many synth programs as the Triton but enough to keep you happy especially for down south and techno type tracks. But it sounds like you already have some Nation enemies but I guess you can hold your own against em. Go for it!

The statement Prophacee made above demands my respect...and I can easily submit that respect his way! Although I don't fully agree with his choice of weapons....that's the whole point! It's not my business what he chooses or feels comfortable using. Therefore, I'd never make bold statements about what he uses. He knows what his mission is in music production....so nobody should judge.

Also, I'd never base my gear selection on how I'm treated in some forum. In most cases, forum members are hateful unless you think like they do. So why depend on hateful strangers to tell me what to do with my money! It goes back to me saying, "DO YOUR HOMEWORK!" Go with your gut feeling after that. If at that point you feel like you bought the wrong gear for your needs....make moves to correct the mistake....and move on!

Life is what you make it! Don't make simple things complicated!

ok, well here's a real question, I just really realized this is what i'm really curious about:

I'm very interested in all the various extra features the mv has, like the multitracking and audio combined with midi track type deal, but how well are these implemented? is it more like a gimick? I know rolands are used to that( d beam...) the bass synth extra seem slike a big gimick, maybe it's good. but i'm just not sure. this is what i'm most worried about.

on one note i'm really leaning towards an mv, the more i read and get into it, the more it seems like a great decision. it seems akai's really fallen off with qualit/support to the point where i dont even know what the point of buying a new akai really is...used to be the mpc wbere high quality as all hell over most other units. pro units with no extra bullshit, now i dont really know....

The midi and audio tracks work real good together!

Midi Tracks
As for midi tracks....just like the MPC's, you can use your internal sound banks, you can midi out to other instruments or sound modules.... or both at once. You have complete control over all midi filters, after touch, quantize per track, and velocity. There's many features that can be used while arranging midi tracks (pattern grid, piano roll, pencil tools, etc) too much to name here!

Audio Tracks
The audio tracks are the other side of production. Most people view this as having a built in track recorder with 8 tracks of audio! Actually it is, but it's not really practical to use it as a track recorder because it uses lots of RAM to use it as a track recorder. Again, there's work-around and little tricks to make it work as a track recorder, but I tell the truth....my opinion is I wouldn't recommend doing it!

Using audio tracks for audio phrases (long samples) is the best way to use the 8 audio tracks. There's so many things that can be done with audio tracks, but I'm not really the guy that can explain all the tips & techniques! I really don't use it as much as others! My studio is not done and I don't have access to all of my gear and records right now. There's a lot of settings and features that can be applied to the audio tracks.

To answer your question, they do work real well together. I think the implementation of audio & midi was done well. We can always dream up features and magic buttons we wish gear had, but you should be able to do whatever you desire track-wise once you learn how it works!

cool man, i definately think imma buy one.

how is the bass synth anyway/ a gimick or can it make some great basses

i really like sticking my head in just 1 piece of gear n really getting to know it and stuff out of it, i think this unit will be great for that.

and although big, i think itd make a great live piece. if just using that, its not much to bring out;] a nice skb case, lug it around without a problem ; ]

The audio track feature is probably my favorite part of the MV. Besides the unlimited midi tracks you can use, you get these 8 audio tracks. I mostly use these when I resample or occasionally use a loop. The audio tracks make it real easy to time stretch and drop something right in the sequence.

As far as the synth module, It's pretty good, but doesn't really compare to something like Reason.

Since I have Reason and a MicroKorg, I don't use it too much, but before I had them, I loved it. You can tweak the sounds pretty well, which is really all a good synth needs to have

My best advice for someone getting the MV, is just learn that **** up and down. It's not a mpc, so don't go into it trying to use it like a mpc. It's much different and has lots more capabilities.

Also, RESAMPLE RESAMPLE RESAMPLE... this is the key to using the MV to it's maximum potential

I like the bass synth myself . It's as capable as you designing skills are. What i mean by that is that if you have a good ear for tweaking analog synths it can crank . The SH type sound is pleasant and useful but don't expect it to go 'head to head' with dedicated synths. The Roland Bass Patches help a lot as good starting points.

When you get be sure to make some extra room on your desk. It's both wider (slightly) and deeper (quite a bit) than the my 4000 in the same space. This could be a problem if space is at a premium.
