Basic hook up question

ok say i got about 4 different keyboard/synths/sound modules/ and i want all of them to be synced with my mpc how would i do with only 2 midi outs on my mp? would i just have to go from keyboard to keyboard out in, out in,out in then out in to my controller then from my controller to my mpc?will this work? I just wanna make sure

i got da same problem....

You would use the THRU ports on the back of your synths/modules. THRU is basically used to send the midi data THROUGH the one device into another. So you can send the midi data from your mpc into say a keyboard (control the keyboard) and then out from the keyboard's midi THRU into another midi device like a module and also control the module.

but you would have to setup the midi options inside each synth/module. You have to tell it which midi channels to use. For example, you can setup your module to only use midi channels 1-5, then your keyboard for channels 6-11 and another module for 12-16 or something like that.

if you still need help then give more info on what exactly you're using and/or how many modules/synths you actually have.

I keep telling katz that when you use a midi patchbay you don't have to deal with (physically) setting the midi channels on each device. The software matrix that's used with the patchbay does all of the routing/configuration. Why do things the hard way?

ok i have the 2000xl, the motiff es rack, the triton extreme and the Fantom x6. with a USB midisport 4x4 connected to pro tools 7.0.

do i have a midi patchbay up there^^^????

well, a midi patchbay would work, too. But for those who dont have the money or who dont want to use one, there's ways of connecting everything using the midi THRU on your gear. thats why its there.... so you can chain more then one midi device together

MPC midi out>4x4 midi in. Triton or Fantom midi out> 4x4 midi in. The 4x4's midi outs > all of the above instruments' midi ins. Pro-Tools will work with the 4x4's software interface (providing you have it configured correctly).
