Hello,
Just looking for advice and personal stories...

The screen finally went out on my OG 1k, it just shows yellow now with a permanent dark oval in the left center. It booted up chunky a few times but around the fourth reboot, it totally let go... no screen contrast control either. I left it on constantly before the HDD was installed so this isn't unexpected and this machine is from the first batch...

Thanks in advance.

I just bought mine mpc 1000 for $400 yesterday and it came with this problem. When i turn on the the mpc there is a black spot in the middle of it. When i laying it flat it is hard to see but if i tilt it a little it bit i could see perfectly. I found lcd replacement at this site for $180 http://www.mpcstuff.com/lcd-screen-for-mpc-.html

I was wondering if anybody knows of another site were the lcd are cheaper and if some has a tutorial how to install them on your own? Thanks

I have some advice for you... The $180 is great price if the ribbon cable is soldered on. If it's just the LCD component, I bought my replacement part from VST for $142 shipped. They failed to ask any questions other than to suggest I install it myself?? So at this point, I don't aprreciate that, but that not withstanding, they took care of me.

So... Now I have found out I must spend another $60/hr to have the ribbon cable soldered on. Wish me luck ya'll...

At least I can help someone else with this thread...

Was wondering if someone that has purchased one of the replacements from mpcstuff or elsewhere could post the part number of what they received? Basically any marking on the LCD would be great to know.
I very much doubt its akai specific, most lcds have a standard type driver and i bet this is the same.
It just seems nuts to spend $150+ on an lcd so i'd like to try to source them elsewhere if i can.
any help would be great ;)

Hey bam, the part I received from VST is the real oem part. In fact, they're labeled with dates and the new one is only 4 months older than the original bad unit I'm throwing out.... Just fyi.
