t_bias wrote:have you set your settings correctly in the MIDI/SYNC screen on your MPC?

you need to make sure that info corresponds.

i.e. the MPC set to master for the corresponding MIDI out port that your
connecting the MK to.

also the MPC will not be setup to send MIDI notes chromatically, you'll have
to knock up a program for this. easy to do, just make a new program, go
to program edit, press the NOTES tab, and re-arrange the numbers in there
so they're in order from lowest to highest.
Dude if you feed info to some of these katz, they'll always come to these boards for help and will never figure things out on their own. Most of these folks will milk you for a step by step rundown of how they should have their rigs setup. To me that shows a lack of talent and without talent you can imagine what their music sounds like. I always figured things out myself 'cause that's my nature. If I need to know the difference between multiple ways of achieving something, I'll seek that info from books, magazines and other resources. But you'll never see me ask how to hook up something or what's the best thing to use etc. If anybody feels offended then so be it. We're not here to school folks, we're here to share a passion for something a lot of folks wish they could have. But everyday when I see a "I need help" post, I think of all the peeps that basically have jumped on the bandwagon and have'nt paid any dues to qualify them to be producers, but they seem to know more than a person who's been trained to read, sight read and compose (not to mention the technical side of things) longer than they've been around. :? I think I may need to drink to that...

Ok just googled "midi master slave" and have to admit you are right. There are people referring to in/out with these terms but its pretty rare, just tried to avoid confusion.

And in general, if problems occur you have to learn to track them down. Exchange equipment, cable to test them, if nothing seems to be defect (or everything) you might have to learn some more about you gear and the technology behind it.

No hard feelings here, just making sure we're all on the same page. And you're right about being able to traige your problems, this helps keep the creative momentum going and less time for confusion. 8)

I have a microKorg and an MPC and have hooked them up before as described and it worked fine for me.

I would suggest backing up any custom patches on your microKorg and setting it back to factory default settings and trying again, perhaps something got tweaked out of whack on it over time.....

actually come to think of it, the way I usually set it up is connect OUT to IN from each instrument, then set the micro to LOCAL OFF. then when you hit a key on the micro it will trigger whatever track you have on the MPC. if you set the track to MIDI and have the same channel on both instruments then either the keys on the micro or the pads on the MPC will trigger the microKorg's Audio section.....

you might also want to check the manual on OMNI modes for the MPC, maybe it's messed up......

$&*%()&%!!!! this is annoying - is it because my MPC is f'ed or am i just overlooking something basic and simple in the settings. do you even need to mess with your MIDI / sync settings or should it work regardless? if its because my MPC is f'ed up then both outputs would be to blame, cause both 1A and 1B are getting nothing.

DJPhD wrote:Hey I am new to my MPC and JJ OS and I am trying to figure out how to hook up my MicroKorg to my MPC with MIDI. I want my MicroKorg to be the master and the MPC to be the SLAVE (in other words, I want to play/record my Korg notes through the pads on the MPC). Right now i got it working the opposite way, (my MicroKorg is the slave).

Could somebody please give some step by step instructions, i tried looking at the manual but it is too confusing.

Thanks in advance
First you say, "I want my MicroKorg to be the master and the MPC to be the SLAVE". But then you say, "in other words, I want to play/record my Korg notes through the pads on the MPC" :? I want you my friend to keep reading over this and tell me what you see wrong. I think the board of directors are about to strip you of your doctorate degree.

no need to mess with midi options inside the MPC. that is for syncing purposes.

Peace to everybody that has been helpful so far . . .

Dabmeister - where do i start? u need to make more beats and get off the forums, dog, seriously. i dont care for the semantics, i just want to get this MIDI rockin, an in order to do so i am explaining the problems the best i possibly can. if that is not up to your standards, too bad, i dont want to hear it. if my posting bothers you, then PUSH ALONG!! there are plenty of other interesting topics on this site.

earlier you said:

"But everyday when I see a "I need help" post, I think of all the peeps that basically have jumped on the bandwagon and have'nt paid any dues to qualify them to be producers"

you tryin to say u never had issues with your equipment? so now i am a not a "producer," OK . . . you wanna battle, i am good to G-O!!!!

Dawg, settle down. It's no offense to you per se when I made those statements. But on the other hand, I was merely & logically looking at your problem and hoping that you would catch on to what's wrong. But to take offense to an old head like me and think I'm personally aiming my statements directly at you, you've got me wrong young fella. I'm here to help you. So post what you're trying to do once more and we'll find a solution...agreed? P.S. Dawg, I'll still take you up on that battle if you want but keep in mind I'm an r&b, jazz, go-go, ballads type of kat so what's the style? You name it! I don't sample...I playsssss dem dam keys and program my beats. On the other hand, I'll whip together some samples if you'd like too.

What you want to achieve is hitting pads on the MPC resulting in sounds from (or signals to) the MK, right?

I think this is not possible, since the pads on the MPC don't send out midinotes. Or am I wrong?

I've tried to use the mpc as a midi controller (actually, that is the same thing as described above), but it does not seem to work.
