how do u make sample on pad stop when you press other pad?

hi, i searched in the forums for this but nothing came up. When I'm playing out my samples i would like it if when I press one pad the other pad I pressed before automatically cuts off. i don't like how it overdubs it. Thanks ahead of time.

Set it up using MUTE ASSIGN
You can only set up to two pads to cut any other one though.

I'm sorry, I phrased my question wrong. When i press pad 1 for example, whatever sample is loaded on that each time i press it, i want the sample to restart without dubbing. Thanks ahead of time.

it has to do with mono or poly in the params screen. go to that and mess with it.

Press the pad, then put your hands over your ears, press the pad then put your hands over your ears. REPEAT AS NEEDED

I have a mpc 2000xl mcd and i looked through the parameters screen and do not see anything about mono or poly. please reply. thanks.

You want to set it to Mono

If you mean when U press a pad + hold, then let go sample stops...
i believe the function is under the params screen and you want NOTE OFF

Am I right in thinking that the 2000/XL doesn't have multiple mute groups within a pgm whereby any pad can cut another pad similar to the newer 1000, 2500?
Just wondering as someone I know is selling a 2000 at a good price and I'm considering it.

Yeah. the 2k/2kxl can only use up to 2 pads to cut off 1 Pad. The 500 also has Mute groups, which are really nice.

It's a shame that there is no true monophonic program mode on the XL.
The Mute groups that are there are mainly to use as choke groups for open/closed Hihats and the like.

If someone would like to rewrite the XL os to have a monophonic program setting I wouldn't complain. Must be one of the most requested features.
