MPC 3000 Reading Problems....

Hi, I'm Wu from Germany. I really hope you can help me here....
I got an MPC 3000, that cannot load any other files than written by itself. I tried my MacBookPro as well as Win XP to write Floppies and ZIPs. Even MPC-formatted discs didn't work. It can see the files (or at least the directory), but I get an Error when I want to load the files.
The MPC boots without any floppy or ZIP disc. Trying to boot with an original bootable floppy in order to get my OS updated (it's 3.03 at present) the MPC even fails to boot.
My suspision is the ROM-Board.

What do you think?

You have posted this enquiry over at the other Yahoo forum too

First a look at the error codes that can happen.

Although the topic title in this example says 3.11/3.12 the boot errors display remain identical for all previous OS versions.

Your machine operating system ROM will need to be updated if you wish to run with a newer version.

Newer versions solve a lot of problems with file<>computer translation.

3.11 to some degree ...... other newer versions a lot more so.

My ERROR type is 11h....according to your thread, it should be one of these:

1: A corrupted or in appropriate SYS file on the floppy disk that
you're trying to boot your MPC3000 with.

2: That you are trying to boot your MPC3000 with a SYS file that is
too new when compared to the one in the machines ROM. Machines fitted
with operating systems 3.03 or 3.08 in ROM can exhibit this issue
when trying to boot from a 3.11 or 3.12 floppy disk.

The file shouldn't be corrupted, as I bought the floppy from a shop, selling drums as well as updates on floppies.


My question is, how can i run my ROMs with a version like 3.11/3.16, when I cannot update using my floppy?

SYS file is probably not corrupted.

Point 2: above will be what is causing the problem.

IE: too old a version in ROM, one that can not boot a newer version via floppy with any positive result.

This point has been discussed many times on various forums including this one.

The older verion ROM's 3.00-3.08 ( and in some instances 3.10 ) have a problem with "session booting" an operating system from floppy.

In this instance the only way to update your MPC3000 operating system is via the path of a ROM upgrade.
