what zip drive do i need to get for my mpc 2000xl?

hi i am having trouble finding an internal zip drive for my mpc 2000 xl,

do i need a certain zip drive? what cables?does the zip drive and mpc have the same connection? do i need to modify or cut any cables?

help would be aprecciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you can just use an internal ide zip drive,but not 100% sure on it.Also if you don't need a zip drive look into getting cardreader they're supposed to be more reliable.

bro you need a IOMEGA SCSI zip drive. if you want to get one that you can hook multiple drives up to you need to get one with the termination switch on the back of it. these drives are cheap as chips dude. youll need to get the appropriate number pin cable to hook it up to the mp which isnt a problem. you can buy either a 250mb IOMEGA scsi zip drive which takes 100mb disks and 250mb disks or a simply a 100mb zip drive that will only take 100mb disks. do you get me? pm me if you need more information, but there is an abundance of information on these on the net.

buy two incase you need one for parts if you can, sometimes they stop working, the 100mb IOMEGAS are generally quite old, but reliable. i want to get the 250 model because its compact as and it doesnt even need a power cable and you have more available memory. but i cant find one very cheap. look on ebay or go to a second hand computer store near you.

opps. i forgot to mention. the EXTERNAL, dont bother about installing the internal IDE zip drive. get the external one, it plugs in the back. use this option until you find something better

/\What he said is a good idea.If your going to get a zip drive just get a scsi model since they are cheaper(but not by much if your going for a 250 from what I've seen),but from what I've seen ide card readers are cheaper than scsi zip drives or ide zip drives and more reliable because they don't have any moving parts.Just my .02.

If you get a generic one,not the akai one you find at vst or ect.No I don't have one,I only have a 2000 classic.I'm just going off what I've heard around these forums for sometime.

If you are interested in installing an internal zip drive in your MPC2000XL, you may wish to visit:

mpc2000xl (dot) com

and go to the Frequesntly Asked Questions section, and click on: How do I install an Internal Zip Drive? Go the zip drive section.

Read this section for more specific information and there is even a picture of the cable(s) you will have to modify and some troubleshooting tips, should you have problems.

Personally, I would not go "messing" around with these cables and jeopardizing the internals of the MPC2000XL. Have it done by a trained MPC technician.

Another way to go, is to use your scsi port and connect a SCSI zip drive.

Some folks use 100MB, 250MB, 2GB Jaz Drives. I would not recommend using the 2GB drive because there is a history of problems with the tapes used by the Jaz drive.

The norm is using either a 100MB or 250MB external SCSI Drive. The zip drive has a 25 pin connection. So you will need to use a 25pin-50pin scsi cable for your application.

An external SCSI drive that doesn't need a power cable...are you SURE about that? I could see USB drive POSSIBLY not needing a power cable, but not an external SCSI drive.

nah ur right, usb has power running through it too if necessary, scsi is only a data transfering system

Hi!No disrespect to anyone,but i keep hearing the same ole thing from everyone on this subject,and it has cost me alot of money.I think people should realize when it comes to a subject and matter like this...it's best to show pics. of which drives work best and the necessary cables and or adapters that go and work with them...because you can tell someone something but i know for a fact visual is the best thing that can be offered when it comes to things of such magnitude.For example,i saw two external zip drives on ebay for a nice price for my 2000xl.I brought the right zip cable that attaches to the zip and 2000xl but the zip dock in the back of the zip drive itself is male oriented and the same goes for the cable.So i figure it has to have some type of adapter in order for it to work.But i can not find this out because no ever shows the back of the 250 zip drive.They just show the front.
