Hey all,

I had to sell my 2000XL a few months ago to fund a car repair. If I had $8-900 layin around for a fully loaded XL I would have done that, but since I didnt, I did the 15 month no payments thing at Guitar Center. Even though I had read about the pads bein crummy and breaking on the 1000, I decided to buy one anyways thinking that the black "2.0" 1000's were less likely to have that problem. I was wrong :P

Low and behold with about 5 hours of playtime under it's belt, poor pad #16 would only play full velocity with "full level" turned on. I was really gentle with it too. I didn't even bother having them exchange it, I'll take it as a sign that I'm not supposed to own a 1000. Too bad too, I really liked it except for the lack of autochromatic assignment, but I was plannin on loading the JJ OS to get that back!

that's **** up

I got mine off ebay (blue and red) and although the pads aren't the greatest, none of them have actually failed yet

maybe you should just hold off for a few months, Akai is supposedly releasing a new set of pads for the 1000 in a month or two, but I don't think this has actually been confirmed as official news

It kinda left a sour taste in my mouth, I think I'm going to look for a used 2500, or most likely get a loaded 2000XL on a line of credit... (boo i know).

off topic: how'd you hack your 1000 screen like in your avatar???? thats dope.

That really sucks.

I just got a used blue 1000 from CG for 500 bucks with the Akai ram installed. All the buttons and pads work great, it was priced at 600 but I talked them down because the window button is slightly wonky, but it works fine.

I think I am gonna get the PadKontrol for it. I love the pads on the PK anyways, and it should hopefully extend the life of my MPC pads.

Plus its cool being able to control two banks on the MPC at once, 32 pads is a thing of beauty.

Or you have the option of not using pads at all and just use a keyboard controller..which could give you access to all 4 banks of sounds.

Ive never been able to get the keys on my keyboard to play all the pads in any order. Its always been messed up... how do you sync them???

I have a 1000 Im trying to sell. 6 of the pads went bad, and Im trying to sell it for 500. You can get new pads from mpcstuff.com for like $8 each. Or theres some kid here that makes new pads, all new technology for the mpc. The pads on them suck basically, Its good to hear that Akai might be putting out new ones!

I'm shocked about how much folks complain bout the pads... My 1k is from the first US allocation and besides me burning out the screen out and breaking some buttons (my fault, not design) the thing has only gotten better with each OS.

Perhaps they got some nutz at the factory now days???

Whoever mentioned connecting the padkontrol, wow... I have one but never put two and 2 together... thnx big omie!

that's because the note values on the pads are, by default, in a strange order. it isn't a chromatic order

for the pads to correspond to the keys on the keyboard in order, you have to make sure that the note values are chromatic.

this can be done manually or, if you have JJ OS, with the autochromatic function.

next time you are using the MPC as a midi controller for an external synth, pay close attention to the tuning of pad4 in correlation to the rest of the pads. you will notice that the tuning of pad4 is a very high pitched note value, and this is because of the way that Akai has pre-programmed the note values. I'm not sure why they did it that way, but they did.

can you make a blank autochromatic program to be used as a template for
controling softsynths
