Trouble with effect use

One thing that's been buggin me a while, having trouble using effects. I've been trying to find a way only using compression on the tracks where I keep my drums, how do you apply effects to only certain layers?

as far as i know it's not possible to use fx only on layers...
try using the simult pad mode.

i keep my drums on my mpc.................. um...............

yeah.

anyway, is there a way to use the FX on anything except stereo out? like ... i wanna use the panning as a send from a mono out.

haha thanks guys, i figured... wish there was a way...

maybe even just for the FX that don't require stereo ... id imagine bit reduction, reverb etc could remain in mono...
