o my god my boy just picked up one of THE illest $1 bin joints ever. its a russian fusion band or bands heavier on the jazz tip. the label say 'variety' on it and everything else is in russian( i think). anybody ever seen these variety records? i think its a series. it is funkin nasty though, minute long drum break section thats mad flippable, tons of awesome samples to be lifted. seriuosly, he could probably produce an entire hip hop album just from the samples of this one record.

never been there. i have my two places though.

my DJ picked up a blue note "best of the west-coast volume 3" compilation for 20 yesterday. got myself a "soul brothers selection," lp. dope shit.

thats what true sampling should be and and looping is just a technique

what do ya'll think of comps?
i read an interview with pete rock, about he thought it was wack people
sampling off compilations and such.
i love pete but yuck that, if there is a phat snare sound or hi hat or whatever i will sample with no qualms.
i understand that looping what a million people have looped before u is wack. but i am on a budget so to speak and comps give me at least a nice vareity.

I got probably about over 1000 records, but that's including my hip hop 12". Last week I got three WEATHER REPORT LP's for three bucks each.

I really don't have that much cause I'm just starting out, but I do have some heaters though. Shhhhhhh don't tell noooobody.

I'm the same way man... I be goin to corner stores that sell all their vinyl for a buck... I found so many priceless gems there... 60s and 70s psychadelic rock is the best sh*t though... That got some ill guitar lines... Mad organ sounds... and some ill drum breaks if you can filter them right.... Your definitely where I'm at now.

yup I got about 1300+ records that run the gamut from hip -hop to children records 45's. For samples I more of a yard sailer, thrift shop, dead grandparents inheritance, flea market and oh yes the dolla bin hoppa

I have about 20 Crates (2 liter soda crates perfect for 12"), some in sleeves some not.
There is a Record warehouse in Saint Petersburg called "Banana's", It's a two story building full o' Vinyl.
I picked up a few things there, kinda pricey but.
I found Bill Cosby's "Hurray for the Salvation Army band", it has a cover of "Get out my life woman".
There used to be a place in Orland called "Rock n Roll Heaven" I don't know if it's still there.
My fav diggin spots are Goodwill Thriftstore, and P.A.R.C. thrift, I take my little portable RCA turntable and Peep that $h!t.

to me there are tow types of sampling when digging-

looping- but you need to embellish the loop with beats and other instrumentation.....cant just let the loop play......

cutting- using hits, edits and cuts and rearranging.....

to me what is often best is a combo of both......

Ive been hittin up Antones in the ATX. Mad 45s for 50 cents. Some old shit. And found a whole box of the 45s you get out of magazines. Crazy samples on that ish.
