Hello MPC-Forumland,
I have a few important questions regarding the JJ os features and functionality.
I have a new MPC1000 that I got in a trade and was immediately put off by the standard os [ I used to own a 2000] that the 1000 has.
So, I am really considering switching to the JJ os and really hope it can do the following things with no issues.

I want to make full use of the four individual outs, assigning certain samples to out 1, others to out 2 etc.

I also want to be able to control my Lexicon MPX-1 effects unit with the MPC1000 so the the MPC would have to still be able to send, receive, and record incoming MIDI info from/to the MPX-1.

Can the JJ os handle these tasks easily??

Thank you for reading,
Ian

yes and yes

what is the effects unit? does it have individual ins which apply effects controlled by midi ccs?

hi, thanks for the quick reply!!

Yes, the Lexicon MPX-1 can be used as a "dual mono in - shared stereo out" effects unit.
That is, the left input can be considered/set up as channel 1 while the right can be channel 2.
channel 1 could phase and delay its' input while channel 2 could pitch shift and auto-pan its' input and there is no "bleed through" of the two channels. both channels come OUT of the same stereo pair, but I am fine with that.
Lexicon calls it's MIDI control "dynamic MIDI". Say you have set up the foot pedal to control delay feedback amount and the foot pedal also sends CC#12, you simply record the MIDI info into the MPC as you are rocking the pedal and the amount of feedback variance is saved with your sequence. This is cool because:
you can save this "pedal performance" and use it on other sequences, and since the delay tempo synchs to midi tempo, the new sequence can be a different tempo and things still match up. [unless your tempo is beyond the amount of delay the MPX provides]

you can also assign CC12 to another parameter later on, like pan rate or volume etc...

A lot of this is stuff people on laptops just take for granted, but I think it is really fun to leave my house with the MPC, MPX and a small mixer and bang away on pads as opposed to a mouse - of course the reliability of the MPC1000's pads is another story ;[

for now, yes the pad reliability is. according to some credible sources though, that era is just about at its end.

that little effects machine sounds really really cool. if there's one thing i don't like, it's using effects on a pc or laptop. this results in my VERY modest use of effects on my music. so many of my tunes now are just raw samples. my biggest "effect" is soundsculpting by layering. i don't even use the mpc effects all that much. if i want to change a sound, i layer it with something else or simult it.

i'd love a portable effects unit for the mpc. the son of a family friend, ollie ackerman, designs guitar effects units:

very interesting, atypical designs. i'd love to collaborate with him on an mpc effects unit that basically fits alongside the mpc. it'd have 4 ins (for the 4 outs of the mpc1000) and 4 outs (1 stereo pair for resampling into the mpc1000, 1 stereo pair for output).

ideally, it'd be a really great little "sculpting" effects box rather than a mastering or like eq based thing. maybe it'd have a nice little graphic eq on there but man...if i could draw the basics...

main goal would be portability and tweakability. no midi, though unfortunately. i don't know if i'll be that sophisticated of an engineer anyitme soon.
