I'm waiting on a MPC 1000 that I ordered from sam ash, but now I'm not sure it is what I thought it was. I originally wanted it to use as a sequencer with my Alesis QS8 synthesizer in addition to its sampling functions. I prefer hardware over software and the QS8 has no sequencer, so instead of buying a new synth w/ a seq., I thought I could sequence mine in the mpc 1000 plus use the pads for drums/samples. But I'm getting the impression through research that I can't actually record sounds from my keyboard through midi into the mpc seq. And the only way to do it would be to buy a midi sound module for sound and use my synth just as a midi controller. If so, I think I'd be better off just buying a new synth w/ a seq. for around $1000, instead of buying the mpc for $1000, then having to spend another $1000 on a sound module.

So, my question is why can't I connect the synth as my sound module, and use it as my midi controller?

I understand midi is data, not sound, but why then can the sound from a sound module be recording through midi into the mpc?

Also, when recording in the mpc 1000 seq. with a sound module/keyboard, does it use the same memory as the sampler? If so, how much memory will I need if I want to use its seq similar to that of a motif/fantom?

Thanks,

midi can't record sound

the mpc records midi data and then when you play the mpc sequence back it re-triggers the synth as the sequence plays

thanks, so as long as my synth keyboard is connected to the mpc I'll be able to play back data I recorded as sound?

it will play back as data within the mpc, the only sound will come from the synth's output

if you wan't that sound in the mpc you will have to sample it

midi does not carry sound

So could he create a sample from his synth, then load it into the mpc and then play it with the pads?
