Midi connectivity

Hi Guys

I am hoping some knowledgeable person could help. There is a setting I seem to have missed somewhere within the MPC 2500, Logic Pro / Reason where by I am unable to play more than 1 midi instrument at a time. When I write midi data in my MPC and send through channel 1A it triggers instruments on other midi channels ie midi 2A.

For extra points when my MPC (Master) is synced to Logic (Slave) I can’t get Logic to loop playback even when loop is selected on the transport bar.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated I have read manuels and searched on previous posts to no avail.

But it depends how you got your kit setup.

You need to be more specific - what are you trying to trigger from where?

But you should have independent channels on your logic midi channels. If you are using these then the midi data should only be routed from your PC on one channel. To where? depends on what is plugged in where.

To be more specific;

I am using the following gear

Motu 828mkII (Midi out of motu into Midi in 1 of MPC)
MPC 2500 (Midi out A of MPC into Midi in of Motu)
Roland PC-70 Midi keyboard (Midi out into midi in 2 of MPC)

Settings on MPC (MODE MIDI SYNC)

Active track receive channel: All
Soft Thru (Tried both Off & Omni A) Currently set to Omni A

Settings on tracks;

Tr: 10
Type: Midi
Pgm: Off
Midi:1A (Channel)

Tr: 11
Type: Midi
Pgm: Off
Midi: 2A (Channel)

Logic selections;

Tr1: Instrument 1
Type: I choose a plug ie EXS
Parameters: Midi 1 (Channel)

Tr2: Instrument 2
Type: I choose a plug ie EVP88
Parameters: Midi 2 (Channel)

Outcome on playback;

Midi recorded into MPC on Tr: 10 plays back both instruments on each channel.

I have checked to see if any midi information was recorded onto Tr11 on MPC and there is nothing there.

Hope I have painted a clearer picture here.

First thing I notice is the OMNI-A. Perhaps you'll have more joy if this is set to "As Track".

How did you check to see if there was data on MPC Track 11? try Step edit instead of Grid edit (if you used grid last time)

Not too sure about the motu 828 - does this have MIDI routing software, Clockworks? Are you routing via firewire or MIDI ports?

I changed the setting to "As Track" still no go.

If I have only one track off midi in the MPC its still triggers all midi channels in Logic.

From the soundcard (motu 828) it routs via firewire to the Powerbook. I am not aware of any MIDI routing software.

Not being familier to the 828, MACs, Firewire or Logic I should really bow out here!



There is a freeware tool for PCs called MIDI OX, maybe something similar for MAC? But it monitors all MIDI being recieved by the computer, and on which channels etc

Is there any software with the 828 that you can monitor which Channel data is being received?

I have a lower model MOTU, the XT (8x8 midi) and you get MIDI routing software which would allow you to Patch Channels together, Filter Data and Combine Data. So Im thinking that the MOTU device is taking one channel and then Combinig it to all channels.

Either that or Logic is doing something similar I'd of thought.

After running midi monitor I have found the MPC is sending midi through one channel and not all. Therefor it must be a setting within Logic which is causing me the headache. Ill hit everyone up once I work out what it is.
