MPC1000 and Protools(Mbox) ~help~!!

Hey peeps!
Give me some 'detailed' suggestions! I'm New! (I use a labtop)
I'm planning to buy...

1. the mpc1000 and the Mbox.

or

2. the mpc1000 and some other audio/midi interface (plz recommend!)

If it's possible to do all the work on Protools LE, i'd go with the first option.
But i heard that the 'sequencer' is not reliable(compared to others) on PT.
Of course, i will use Recycle or other editing software with it.
The problem is that Mbox only works with Protools LE, if i'm gonna use some other sofeware for the recording and sequencing etc, i'll have to
buy some other audio/midi interface!! (I can only afford one!)
If i don't get the Mbox, i am willing to save up some more and buy a
desktop for better usage. What should i do? Should i go with the Mbox?
Can i record stuff( LPs, scratches, beats from mpc1000) through Mbox and
sequence it in some other software like cakewalk,cubase, and logic? (If this is possible, and i don't need any other interface, i'll go with Mbox!!!!)

Go to DUC (digidesign user conference) and ask there...

You will need a midi interface as well if you want to use Mbox and external MIDI equip (i.e. MPC), if you want to SYNC via midi

Are u on MAC or PC?

If mac u can also check out Logic....PC you can check out Cubase SX

Protools is nice software to use (i like it anyway)...depends on your needs and personal preference. Pro-Tools I think has the best audio editing of them all...very fast and easy...and you can do all kinds of cool tricks.

anybody runnin a PT mbox/mpc 1k/oxygen 8/dell p4 combo or something similar?

So your saying that a pc, the Tascam US-122, and the m box will give you a decent studio that is capable of syncing up with the mpc? No problems with mtc or midi clock and all that bullsh!t?

It all depends on what u want to do and your requirements...

MBOX and US-122 only have 2 inputs..so you can only record 1 stereo or 2 mono tracks at once.

MBOX has SPDIF/2in-2out and software
US-122 has MIDI/2in-2out and no software

I have synced my mpc1000 using pro-tools and a midi interface...also with a roland vs-880ex (old 8-track)

If you want more inputs and features for laptop recording then you need to look at Firewire/USB2.0

Also I am on a mac laptop and have no problems with recording using pro-tools or using the US-122....so I dont know what its like for PC users

How do you sync your pro tools with the mpc? I hear all over that the mpc and pro tools are two different midi settings (mtc and midi clock). I've also had that problem in a studio. I'm trying to build a small studio with pro tools, and the m box seems to be suffice, but if it cant sync with the mpc1k (which is my master for everything), then i would have to get something else, or get something that i guess would act as a "transformer of the midi signal" before it goes through the mbox so that its compatible. What i'm asking is if the us-122 is what i need or not to do this.


Also, can most mixing and mastering be done on the software provided with the m-box?

Pro-tools can do mixing & mastering no problem...

You dont need the us-122 for only MIDI...you can just buy a USB midi interface like a midisport or something else...

MBOX only has audio in/out and no midi that is why u need MIDI interface...us-122 has audio in/out and MIDI but no SPDIF

If you get MBOX make sure your computer follows the minimum specs for pro-tools software...heaps of people have problems otherwise...

With pro-tools you can take your stuff to big studio and finish off there

I have had no problems with pro-tools sync as long as you have Pro-Tools as master and mpc as slave...you can dump in tracks all day long

Do a search on this forum for Pro-Tools sync with mpc1000 and you will find lots of advice...

I would read a lot on the DUC as well so that whatever you get, really suits your needs/wishes, maybe spend a day in a music store using Pro-tools or something
