Has anyone tried to bring their MPC500 on the airplane?

I will be traveling to Japan in September and I thought about purchasing it to keep me busy while on the airplane and on layovers. Just wanted to see if anyone got hassled over something like this.

No, but I brought it along on a 3,5 hour train trip yesterday and it works smooth even there.

Airplanes have a bit louder noice than trains, I recomend you to get a seat as far away from the airplane engines as possible.

yeah, good thinking on the airplane engines. I am not too concerned with the noise or anything of that nature. more concerned with tsa security and if they allow it on the airplane. I just contacted tsa via e-mail so I will update everyone on it as soon as they get back with me.

I have taken my 500 on a few flights. Some TSA Agents will ask you what it is. You tell them what it is and most likely you will have to play something for them. A couple times they just wanted me to turn it on and off ,but be safe and have some earphones to let them hear a sequence in case you have to explain what it is. You'll possibly have a couple workers who will know what it is. You just never know. But def. have a way for them to hear what it does. You'll have to place it in its own container and not with a laptop if you are carrying that too. Some TSA folks are anal.

I take my MPC 1k on the plane all the time, never been hassled. At most an agent will ask "Is this a piece of musical equipment?" To which I respond, "yup" and he gives me the okay.

But I guess your not using the MPC1000 inside the plane since it doesn't work on batteries?

I can imagine other passengers complaining when someone is banging on the MPC pads on the plane.

But seriously, you shouldn't have a problem..... and maybe some female flight attendants will start kickin' it with ya.

I don't know how customs react to stuff like that in other countries, but to simply fly (which I do on a monthly bi monthly basis... actually i just flew to virginia and back yesterday with my mpc 500) all one has to do is take it out of the bag like one would do a lap top, put it in one of their bins separately like you would do a lap top. It is a new thing that TSA is doing with sizeable electronic devices.. game boys, cameras, psp's, ps2s....you have to take it out of the bag now. As far as the noise on the plane, if you have some headphones that have noise reduction you are fine. If you even have headphones that just cover your ears like earmuffs you will be fine. Some TSA people recognize it some don't. When I went through TSA yesterday a girl there asked me do I make beats.. That's is in a nutshell. I go everywhere with my MPC 500. It takes me 2 hours to travel to work and 2 hours to travel from work to home. So I take it with me on the train to work. If I can get a seat as soon as I get on the train (If i'm not sitting between two fat ladies or any bums) I take my mpc500 out of the bag and start working on tracks. Of course i keep the backlight off to save battery energy. I have a pair of good headphones and a pair of sony earbud over the ear hook headphones. I wear the ear hook ones on the train and they work just fine although the train is noisy. But on the train in new york, one needs to be able to maintain focus on everything around them just in case some shit pop off!

hey.. if the information i gave you is vital, can I go to japan too? I just need a place to stay....

do planes these days not have a/c outlets? i have a slight fear of flying, so i don't find myself on planes often. i may take a train home (~1500 miles each way) just to avoid flying. i was hoping the train would have outlets.

ye ive taken it on pretty much every plane trip since i copped it. I love being able to stuff around with it on the go. Haha i do cop a few funny looks from security and flight assistants thinkin its a bomb or sum shit. Definately take it just be prepared to tell everyone that its a drum machine not a weapon of mass destruction
