Comperable to the other MPC's?

I am thinking of buying a MPC 1000 in the next couple day's and i am not really familiar with AKAI, in general. Right now i am using a Roland sp-808 grove sampler, but i feel that this sampler/work station is limiting me on what i want to do with my hip hop style of music. Am i making the right dicision as far as sampling time, memory, etc or should i just save up for the MPC 2000? I also do a lot of live performances and i know that the 1000 is geared tward that. So i guess my question is, does it work just as well in a studio enviorment, or will i be really limited as far as memory?

Those sp-808;s are great for sampling. and that lazer beam thing is fresh.

if you use the sp-808 to cut up and add effects to your samples and then run them into your mpc 1000 you will be pleased.

As far as memory..........hell no you won't be limited! With the EXM128 you get up to 12 min. sampling time in stereo and up to 24 min in mono...so you won't be limited there at all. The 2xl has a limit of up to 32 megs I believe. I don't know how much sampling time that is but it's far less than the 1k is capable of, but most people find 32 megs is enough for your basic tracks most of the time.

As far as studio goes...you might want a 2xl...they are better suited for that...8 outs, more editing feat. available.
