Chopping Samples - Insufficent Memory

I tried to chop a sample last night and got a INSUFFICENT MEMORY message. I don't have the upgraded memory yet. What can I do to make room until I do this? Do I need to just get the upgrade? Can I just use a memory card for now instead some how?

You cant do nothing to make room for this.
Yes, you need the upgrade.
No the memory card doesnt work like that.

The official memory is expensive, but you can use 3rd party memory like Kingston. Some people in these forums have 3rd party memory and some have official Akai memory.

Have a search in this forum for more info.

You can try sampling in mono, gives you twice as much room, but you wont be able to pan that sample fyi.

Guess that came out wrong, if your used to stereo samples that have different sounds on left and right, it would make them all one channel.

you gotta get the upgrade!!! i got the kingston 256MB from newegg for really cheap. i put it in before i ever even turned on my mpc. sampling goes from 136 seconds to about 25 minutes!!! get it...

I grabbed a 128mb off ebay (from the usa) for about £32, I thought that was the max you could put in

128MB is the maximum. But if you don't use the official Akai expansion board, you need double the size because the MPC only reads half of the chips.

Ahhh ........

Mine reads '128mb installed' on startup, so ok then.

Get more Memory?

I cant do anything to clear out some old stuff that may have been saved in RAM? Because I got 128 and I cant chop up my sample.

You should:
a) Use the purge option (removing unused samples from memory)
b) Turn off the autoload function (it takes up memory which you need for your samples)
c) Try not to have more than one song in the memory. When you finish a beat save entire memory to a folder and restart the machine, so you can have all the memory again. Hope that helps.

C) You mean to a folder on the computer right?

No, create a folder on your memory card (just to keep it clean. when you save each beat/project into separate folders you know which file belongs where.) remeber to use the save entire memory as it saves everything. memory card is only for storage and is NOT used during playback etc. RAM handles that.

So everytime I reboot my MPC the RAM cleans up?
