External CD-Rom wont work!!

i m new to this forum and i hope you can help me!

i finally got my mpc2000xl one week ago, gettin the scsi cables was a pain in the ass... i bought an external cd-rom drive to load sample cds on my mpc. i got it from a huge music store and the guy there assured me that it will work with the mpc2000xl.

model:

TEAC CD-516S
SN: 0353370

the problem is it wont work on my mpc. the drive gets detected but it says: NO DISC. but i tried several discs already, the sample cd which came with the 2000xl, and some other sample discs too... next thing is, that when i push LOAD it tells me: SCSI device not ready... the SCSI ID is set up correctly, so i really have no idea how i get that drive workin for now!

Help would be MUCH appreciated!

Have you the CD-Rom Drive terminated?
On the end of a SCSI chain you must plug a end-plug. (Terminator)
Some Drives, like Zips, you can handle by switching Termination ON/OFF.

Hast Du das CD Laufwerk terminiert?
Am Ende einer SCSI-Kette (in deinem Fall CD-Rom) muss ein Endstück eingesteckt werden ( Terminator). Sieht aus wie ein SCSI Stecker ohne Kabel.

Es gibt auch Laufwerke u.a. Zip's die können an einem Schalter terminiert werden.

i didnt terminate the cd-rom drive, and there is no switch to set termination on/off. there is only a switch to set the scsi id, i did that already...

but if the 'terminator plug' is missing, would the mpc still detect the cd-rom drive? cause it detects the cd-rom drive but it doesnt detect the disc. i thought that maybe the laser from the drive is broken but thats implausible cause i bought it brand new few days ago.

ich hab das laufwerk nicht terminiert und da ist auch kein schalter um die termination auf an/aus zu schalten. da ist nur ein schalter um die scsi ID zu setzten, und das hab ich schon gemacht...

aber wenn der terminator fehlt, würde der mpc das cd-rom laufwerk trotzdem erkennen? weil der mpc erkennt das laufwerk aber nicht die cd die sich im laufwerk befindet. ich habe mir gedacht das vielleicht der laser vom laufwerk kaputt ist, ist aber unwahrscheinlich weil ich das laufwerk erst vor ein paar tagen gekauft habe.

check your SCSI id. the cd drive should have a jumper.

Some general information:

There are many versions of scsi cd-rom drives. The challenge is to find out which drives are compatible (friendly) with the MPC2000XL. Speaking from experience, the most compatibles ones have been Sony CDU415, HP 0950-3206, and 3rd, the Toshiba XM-5701b. The Sony and HP models mentioned are VERY HARD to find. The Toshiba model gives mixed results.

The CD-ROM drive is usually assigned to scsi id 3.

Make sure the CDs you are trying to play are readable by the MPC2000XL.

Make sure your scsi cable connections are securely fastened.

In summary, the TEAC model you have is scsi but I am not sure it is compatible with the MPC2000XL (or even the MPC2000).
