To Self-Install or To Not Self-Install...Memory that is...

...I'm debating between installing these sticks myself and just going to GC. They said they'd do it for $25. I've read and re-read midicase's instructions on doing it, but I need a little more confidence...I bought this machine new! Anyone have any crazy problems doing this yourself?

no, its really easy, just dont do it on carpeting. I used the same instructions to do it.

Save the $25. Do it yourself. The hardest part is unscrewing the unit.

yea...I did mine myself......and I don't see a spotin GC without carpet so you will be better off doing it yourself........just ground yourself first!

You right, I don't remember any tiles in my local GC out here in Rockville...well, I went ahead and installed it myself and I'm looking forward to installing the EB16 as well. Has anyone installed everything themselves or are there limits with certain parts?

I've installed every part for my MPC myself . It has everything but the SMPTE card . 8-outs , easy . EB16 , easy . Memory upgrade , easy . I even had to replace my screen last summer because I left my MPC on for a couple of days and I got MAD vertical lines on my screen that would multiply everyday . That wasn't as easy as the others . Now I have to replace my floppy drive 'cus that sh!t is shot too ( I have had my MPC since '97 though ) . Just remember not to be too bent when your'e replacing sh!t ( I broke my play button w/ that stroke of genius ) . And if I were any of you I wouldn't trust GC employees , I know . . . . I used to be one . They would have me upgrading peoples MPC's and I'm not even certified ( so if I **** up someone's sh!t they were f#cked . . . . but I never did ) . Just some food for thought .

Yeah, go to www.18004memory.com...I got both my sitcks at 60ns (faster) speed for $9 total.

That's good to know! I ended up installing the sticks myself in about 20 minutes. I'm looking out for a decently-priced EB16 on ebay now or may just grab it new. Then the 8-outs.

dead easy just take your time, use a decent work surface and watch were you put those screws...
