i have sold quite a few beats as a producer. I have found though that there seemed to be more interest in my beats when i wrote real crappy ones when i first started out. There seems to be little interest in beats that are not totally current and pop sounding.

Has anyone else found it hard to sell beats without compromising on making music u really like urself.

How do u guys sell ur music online and what successes have u had.

yeah I feel you guys.
Some easy money could be done if you'd make some south type beats and sold them for some retarded mc's, but nah I got my money coming from somewhere else..

Where can you find some talented MC's that need beats? ( they dont have to pay me that much) All I've found online are some morons askin' for beats :)

I dont like to promote myself that much (I guess I just have to do it). I have done some work with local artists, but I'd like to hear some different language on my tracks + the artists I work with are too lazy :)

i think its up to you. if your looking to make some money from music and you know how to make beats that sell even though your not feeling them, go for it. but like myself, it sounds like you make music because you love it, not to make money. trying to make music your primary source of income is a recipe for failure - you'll put to much pressure on yourself, and it won't be fun anymore. I'm not looking nor want a record deal because then music becomes a job, not the fun, relaxing, enjoyable activity I fell in love with. I like to put music online in hopes of inspiring others the way my music inspires me. my advice is keep putting your music out there, if someone wants to pay you for it - great, if not, at least you've got something your proud of. good luck

it's not even down-south shit (there are still some good prod. down there - toomp, organized noize, the cats from 3 6 mafia...btw, i'm not from the south)

but anyways, it all really lies down to how minimal you can make a beat period. however, 99 percent of my prod., i just do what i feel comfortable with..i recently signed up w/ pmpworldwide (i found out about it thru scratch mag) and about to see how that works out..but that apparantly allows you to send your prod. to major labels w/o having to send thru countless beat tapes.

yeah kinda .. you have to bend a little to get a little.

online is all about gettin out there and pumpin yourself .. get a soundclick ,
get a broadjam .. go to forums .. chat rooms .. every where you can think and just run ya mouf lol ...
i have done all of that and i finally said the hell with it .. designed my own site.. sell what i want. when i want. as long as i have the space and bandwidth
i would say thas what worked best for me.
