pitch change

I've just bought an mpc 1000 and upgraded to the new jjos. when i do a pitch change (whilst preserving the tempo) in the trim menu the sound gets changed so that it sounds like the bit rate or sample rate have been lowered loads. Is that just what happens when you pitch change but keep the sample at the same speed, or can it be altered somehow??

any help would be much appreciated!

Can someone please give me an answer? It's doing my head in, and out of the 40 people who've viewed this topic some must have used pitch shift and be able to tell me if what I'm experiencing is normal!

Also what are all the different pitch change presets for (like male vocal C, high frequency orch B etc) because as far as i can tell they all sound exactly the same!

if you keep the tempo, pitch change is a destructive feature. you are right in a way the bits do et messed up during the process. thats all normal.

if you want a better pitch shift and timestretch, you should use softwares like cubase, wavelab or soundforge which should have much better algorithm than the mpc.

about the different preset, there must be a difference, but probably very subtle.

cool thanks for the advice. I've only had the MPC a couple of days, but I'm sure I did a pitch shift on a sample using the original akai os and it sounded way better, but when i reinstalled it gave the same results as the jjos. perhaps it's just my mind playing tricks on me...
