Why is "PURGE" function taking like a day to complete?

I mean it is crazy.
On the 2000XL obviously with less ram , but even than it takes like 2 seconds. If multiplied by 4 ( more ram on 1k ) it shoud take like 8 seconds.

Presently it is more like 10 minutes !!!???

Does anyone know why it takes soooo long ?
Or is it just my unit...

how many mb of samples you got in memory? try to purge some smaller samples and check how long it takes, if it then takes that long, just reset your MPC and reinstall your current OS.

yea purge on my 1000 takes some time also. But only when I have a good amount of samples in there.

this keeps coming back on the forum. i reckon there is a bug there.

people needs to be more detailed of the exact time it takes and the amount of samples + mb.

also would be good to test with os 1.07 and check the time. thats the way i got JJ to fix the very slow "overwrite samples to the smartmedia" while saving.

I've waited a LONG time for purges. This is generally when I fill the machine with one-shot samples. We're talking hundreds of samples taking up 100Mb+. It's not uncommon to wait 20 minutes, sometimes longer for that to purge.

I don't think there's a bug, that's just the way it is. I remember my Akai Z8 did exactly the same.

The thigns that strange is that deleting a sample when in trim mode is very fast even for a long sample

I do that sometimes, but I am not too crazy about rebooting the machine every 30 minutes when starting a new beat...

As I said, the XL does it in seconds, which means there is some different logic pattern there and it also proves that it is possible.

Maybe it could be applied to the JJ way of purging things:)

much faster method - load an empty folder and hit CLEAR
or go into trim and hit DELETE ALL SAMPLES

purge takes a long time because it goes thru your pgms and detects which sounds are used in them

but, the whole point of purge is to keep the samples you are using and get rid of the ones that you aren't.

wouldn't both of the methods you described get rid of ALL the samples and leave you to start from scratch?

yo i just tried to purge 64 samples. only maybe 8 mb's of hi hats.......2 hours later its still purgeing.
