wassup guys i have recently got my mpc, and whilst i waited till i could afford a mixer/turntable i just jammed around with the prerset sounds and made some pretty cool stuff.
I finally got my mixer (ttm56) and a 1210 a week ago and iam having a problem recording into the mpc. i have the turntable connected to the phono 1 of the mixer and the mixer going from aux out into record in on the mpc. I have followed all the instructions as stated in the manual but i am not hearing or recording anything when the mpc is armed into record mode. I have it set to analog stereo but when i play the vinyl i am hearing no sound atall. i think it may be a problem with the mixer/tt not the mpc because when i have the monitors plugged into the mpc i hear everything fine.
What i tried to do was plug the monitors straight into the mixer with tt connected but i still didnt recieve any sound, does this mean i need an amp to hear the sound, or have i gone wrong somewhere with the connections, any help would be gratley appreciated, i was just starting to get the hang of the mpc itself but now this has held me up, ive tried everything i can think of but im not great with wires and stuff!!!! thanx

have you tried using the phono master outs on your mixer into your mpc instead of the aux outs?

is your crossfader in the right position? is your gain knob and channel levels at a good volume?

yeah man thats how i originally had it setup and yeah i got the fader to slide all the way and i got the tt into pgm 2 i got the gain at all different levels and i cant hear shit??? do my mixer/monitors need an amplifier, because when the speakers are plugged into the mpc they are fine, i was thinking the mixer needed some kind of amp to actually release a sound sdignal rather than going straight from tt/mixer/mpc

i mean, i dont have a rane (i ahve some old cheapo dj mixer) but i dont need an amp to boost my signal. mine seems fine. although i dont sample directly into the mpc, i use a pc to sample...

i dont think you NEED one just to hear something. its obvious that something isnt connected right or something is wrong with how things are setup....

you got it right though..its obviously something with the mixer. cause when you dont have it in the path, then you can hear fine. do you have your MPC main outs going into your mixer? beause the audio signal has to be coming back out of the mpc into your mixer because your monitors are connected to your mixer.

you have the TT going into the mixer aux ins. mixer phono master outs into the mpc record in. monitors connected to the mixer balanced outs, but where are the mpc main outs going into??

did you turn on the input through? if you are using a 1k you hold shift in the main menu and hit f6 i think. then set the input to on.

i flipped it and put the monitors back into the mpcs stereo outs, then with the mpcs record outs should the go into the master outs of the stereo coz i thought that was for speakers, ive got it like that now but b4 hand i had it into the aux outs. then i have the tt into the pgm phonos of the mixer and the ground wire into the phono ground screw, and im sure this is the way to have it coz the mpcs cool its just somerthing with the mixer.
it just keeps saying waiting for imput signal

i got the 2500 and i read through the whole manual and ive followed it exactly as it says so i think im doing something wrong with the mixer, but im pretty familiar with mixers and its set up just how i used it for djing/mixing.

u sure ur turntable is plugged into right inputs?

Because u have 2 sets of inputs for each channel.. 1 is pre amped (for turntables etc) and 1 isnt pre amped (for cd turntables which are already pre amped inside etc)..

Make sure u have it switched to the right one..

also.. there will be a switch to switch between the inputs to select the one ur using for that channel.. is that switched right dependant on the input ur turntable is going into?

Check ur mixer with a record playing using headphones as well, and make sure u got the headphone monitor switched right on ur mixer...

I know its a simple problem.. that most people on this forum could sit at ur set up and fix it in a couple seconds tops.. u just gotta take it from the start and move through things makin sure each thing workin in order..

When u play record do u see the level meter on ur mixer moving?

I personally think its down to the inputs u takin ur turntable into.. and / or the switch to switch between channel inputs.

Next would be ur output.. use the main output.. or record out not sure if the rane has one but id expect it would have.

The problem, is basically, i have the turntable working and playing records all good, but thats with the monitors plugged into the back of the mixer,
when i have the monitors plugged into the back of the mpc it doesnt play the sound being produced by the tt, but it is recording it.

So basically i have to take the monitors out of the back of the mixer after recording a sample, then plug them back into the mpc, but surely their as an easier way to do it than this????

Do i need another wire connecting the mpc to the mixer besides the record out to master out?????

first of all, i don't know if this is just your personal forum semantics but you never get sound from plugging an OUT to an OUT. just ain't gonna happen....

second, have you checked the gain setting on the MPC? when you start the TT, you should be seeing levels peaking in the recording section. you want them real high, almost to the point of clipping. it's possible you are recording a very low signal which simply can't be heard upon playback....

third, the audio throughput has a lot to do with if you can hear the signal from the MPC or not. if it's set to off, you will see the levels moving in REC moe, but hear nothing.....
