reason sound engine su$ks but rewied thru pro tool, cubase, nuendo there is a world of differents. there is no comparison with reason sound engine and mpc. mpc sound engine is much better.

I own both and believe me reason sounds thin but if you rewire it to say cubase, it sounds thick and reason is easy as hell. The **** u mean mpc is for people that dont know ins and sends?? Reason is the easiest shit, even easier than the mpc so maybe you cant get down with an mpc?????

mwalker wrote:i am not going to start a pissing match with you guys today because i have learn some things from you all. on this board there are beginners , intermed, experienced individuals and some of the questions that are asked are beginners questions that if they had a understanding of how a studio, sound design and efx(s) work they would be better off. i am just trying to give back some of the stuff i have learned. why go out and buy $1000 to $1500 of equiment when you dont have a clue about the music making process. that is all i am saying. when i listen to the radio 8 out 10 songs uses an mpc. they are very popular as we all know, i owe one myself (i had it close to 10 years). i just have a problem with individual that purchase gear and do not have a clue on the music making process (from idea to finished product). reason is a good learning tool. berklee school of music uses it and they are top of the line. reason is not for everybody, but if you are a beginner it is a good starting point to understand the basic concepts of the music making process. period. it is true if you have talent you could make a track on a 4 track cassette recorder, i have a tascam 424 portastudio that i started on. i use to sync it to my mpc and record the rap on the track. i learn how to overdub, bounce track and produce music on it. it was a great learning tool.

i have learn to respect you guys and i am not saying the reason is professional but if you are starting out it is a great learning tool. period (at a reasonable price). in order to be successful, whether making music for friends or family or trying to get a record deal an individual must understand how a rack work. it that true? if so, why purchase a mixer, eq, efx(s), modules etc just to learn the music making process. does that make sense? i do not think so. again, for $300 you could get reason and LEARN what it will take to make music. mixing, efx(s), eq, automation, synth programming (differents between subtractive and graintable synthesis), insert, send, returns, gate and synchronization. if an individual just want to make beats i can understand f*ck mwalker but if you want to understand the music making process at a cheap price mwalker does know what he is talking about.

binger0,
i am coming in peace, i have read where you are plainfield, nj i live in somerset nj. lets get to together because you have much respect around there and you can see first hand that i may know what i am talking about and report back to the board. let put a track together.

what is the problem with people buying gear and not knowing how to get an idea to a finished product? why do you have a problem with that? Ill tell you why. because you use it to back your argument wich frankly doesnt impress me at all. why do you care what other people do. I smell jelousy. If it bothers you then dont mention it, because it has nothing to do with production techniques. who cares if there momy bought them some expensive gear and they dont even know how to plug it in. I don't. I do my own thing and could care less.

jonloc, personally i like to know where i am going. i dont depend on luck when i make music. this how cool the mpc is, say i know nothing about making beats, but i do know the snare is on the 2 & 4, lay down my snare track on the 2 & 4, then lay bass drum down on any beat besides the 2 & 4 (ei 1 e an ta, not 2 but e an ta, 3 e an to, not 4 but e an ta) and put my hihat on any beat (ie 1 e an ta, 2 e an ta, 3 e an ta, 4 e an ta) someone could possibly put together a nice beat without knowing how. personally, I LIKE TO HAVE A CLEAR VIEW ON WHAT I AM MAKING AND NOT DEPEND ON LUCK. THE MPC CAN PRODUCE BEAT FOR SOME PEOPLE WHO DO NOT HAVE A CLUE ON BEATS. THAT IS WHY IT IS SO POPULAR (IN MY OPINION). IF YOU KNOW HOW TO PROGRAM IT, IT IS A MONSTER. SO MY POINT IS WHEN I GO SOMEWHERE I LIKE TO KNOW HOW I AM GETTING THERE. TALKING FROM EXPERIENCE I HAVE BROUGHT A LOT OF GEAR FOR NOTHING BECAUSE I DID NOT KNOW WHERE I WAS GOING MUSICAL. I ALSO BELIEVE THAT THERE ARE OTHER WHO DID THE SAME THING AND IF THEY COULD GO BACK THEY WOULD HAVE DONE MORE RESEARCH ON THERE PURCHASES. PERIOD.

ANOTHER QUESTION, WHY BUY ANY EQUIMENT AND DO NOT KNOW HOW TO USE IT, IT FUNCTIONS IN YOUR SETUP, CONNECTING IT ETC. IT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE. NOT TO ME AT LEAST.

say you own you mpc for just say 4 years and another person just got theirs. do you think you may have more experience than the person who just got a mpc. WELL I HAVE HAD MINES FOR MORE THAN 10 YEARS AND MAKING ELECTRIC MUSIC FOR CLOSE TO 20 YEARS AND I AM TALKING FROM MY EXPERINCES AND SOME EXPERIENCES OF FELLOW MUSICIANS I KNOW. I AM NOT HATING OR DISSING ANYONE BECAUSE I THINK EVERYONE IN THE WORLD SHOULD MAKE MUSIC. IT IS BEAUTIFUL. IT IS BETTER THAN WAR, WORK ETC. IF I COULD HELP ONE PERSON FROM SOME OF THE MISTAKES I HAVE MADE I AM HAPPY WITH THAT.

This discussion is doomed to become a screamfest. Maybe it should be closed.

shyda, cant get down on the mpc? well can you get on with a double bass drum set, how about flam taps, paradiddles, flam paradiddles, play 5 against 4 (do you know what that is). please. give me a coffee can and i could get down with that. if everyone knows where the one is and the back beat is, they can program mpc anyday.

mwalker wrote:if the mpc works you, a banjo work for joe, a guitar works moe and software works for me it does not make a difference. we ALL are making music and that is the point. RIGHT GUYS :D .

exactly. Thats why this arguement has been beat to death, i mean really we are all just arguing over the same shit. The right answer is to use what ever works for you; however i would say no matter what one should realize that they have to be flexible if they want to work with other people.

mwalker wrote:cyrus, what is the 3rd normal form (this is a database question). i have a degree in math and computer science and a masters in finance.

3nf refers to relationships in a database. I could google you an answer. or i could sit here and explain it....did i also mention im lazy?

cyrus, 3 normal form - the key and nothing but the key (all data in a table is related only to the key of the table). laziness is one thing but knowing is another. :P
