the use of a hard drive in the mpc 1000

So I just formatted my hard drive and now it's like where do i begin?
Ideally, i would like to start with my drums and build a library. I was wondering if I could save a bunch of drum loops on the hard drive and then when I work on a song if I could just find the loop I want to use, then chop it into individual hits. But I want to really know if I can chop up the drum loop, and use it in a song without losing the drum loop... Does that make sense?
I just figured it would be faster to record a bunch of loops and chop em as I work on songs instead of chopin em up while I'm creating a library...

im new to the 1k but to my understanding even though you chop up the loop it still retains the original sample. Plus if you load up a loop and chop it up its still going to be on your HD in tact if you needed it for anything else. hope that helps. Someone correct me if im wrong.

First of all,since your just starting off, you should get in the habit of keeping all your samples and loops organized. TIP:

1.Sample the loop, 2.chop it up,assign the chops to a new program, 3.make sure you name that program something that will help you remember what it is, 4. In that same program find a open pad and assign the original loop to it, 5. Now create a new folder in your hard drive and name it loops,samples,etc. . 6. Then save the program+samples to that folder in the hard drive,

Doing it this way will save you a lot of time whenever you want to use that loop again.

just wanted to say thanks for the advice. I've started saving loops from records and drum hits/sounds from software(ableton live,etc) when I have a sizeable amount i'm going to dump em in the MP. Good lookin!
